  • I crave fat sometimes, is this ok?

So I'm going on my fourth week of Atkins. My weight loss has tapered off but thankfully I am still losing inches from my stomach. Actually on average 1/8 -1/2 of an inch, the same rate as induction.

While Atkins has totally broke my craving of carbs (thank goodness) it's now replaced by fat. I've been craving butter and I can't tell if it's because I have some really good Irish butter or the butter itself. I'm also craving a greasy hamburger but surprisingly not the fries or bun.

I don't know whether the fat craving is a good thing. I've been eating a shirataki noodle soup once a day that I made that is pretty fat-less. I'm wondering if that is it.

    Has anyone experienced this?

Lol, does this mean I have to butter up my soup? I'll think of something. I could've sworn I had some sesame oil in the kitchen that would go nicely with it.

I know just recently I was craving fats and greasy meat. I took a good look at my menu and realized I was eating a LOT more lean meats and lean protiens. I upped my fat intake and the craving is gone again. The one thing that set me off though were nuts. it ried eating nuts b/c theya re high in fat but it turned into a nut fest craving bonanza and now I have had to step back from that food catagory and re work it.

Re: I crave fat sometimes, is this ok?

Ahh i see. Yeah I have been eating less fat.

Today for breakfast I had 1/4 cup blueberries and cream. (Usually I have scrambled eggs with cheese, onions and mushrooms and 3 slices of bacon. But I've been waking up later so don't have time to prepare as much.)

Then I had shirataki noodle soup with pork, bok choy, scallions and mushrooms. There's a bit of fat in it from the pork but not much.
Hmm, it seems whenever i have the soup I get the cravings. But it's sooo good. Maybe I'll just eat the soup and follow it up with something fatty, after all it doesn't take much fat for the craving to go away.

It's about 6 pm here in AZ so I'm about to make dinner. Roasted chicken thigh (skin on) with spinach sauteed in olive oil and feta cheese.

If this is your 4th week of being on Atkins, then then first 2 weeks you were doing Induction. So these last 2 weeks you should have been eating On Going Weight Loss Phase Rung 1---which is 5 net carbs more of the Induction vegetables.

Blueberries aren't added until Rung 4.

If the shiritake noodle soup is giving you cravings, drop the shiritake noodles. Granted, shiritake noodles are pure fiber, but you might be getting blood sugar instability problems from it.

Re: I crave fat sometimes, is this ok?

I modified it a little bit. I actually started on rung 1 but didn't know it, I started atkins at 25 carbs a day eating a lot of vegetables which is no problem for me. Same with berries, I'm still losing inches. I skipped dairy because I hardly eat ricotta cheese and can't stand cottage cheese. I have to be careful about the dairy because I'm slightly lactose intolerant. I can only have so much dairy in a day before my stomach starts grumbling. I then went to nuts which I hardly eat.

I know that might make some people grumble but I've learned to listen to my body. Since I'm on metformin I don't want to mess with my sugar too much. I'm happy with my weight loss so far.

Hahaha, come on over! I always have extra food since I live by myself.

This time I made the chicken a bit different from the way my mom did. I let it roast uncovered for about 30 minutes. The skin was as crispy as a potato chip. If they sold seasoned crispy chicken skins that'd be so yummy.

I haven't tried chad, that's my next veggie to try. I never used to eat vegetables, now I can't get enough. My current fave is bok choy.

Well, the problem is you are craving a food group. So one of the foods you have added is causing that problem, you have to figure out which one.

As for fat, the amount of fat slightly decreases during OWL Phase, not increases. By Maintenance, it should account for 40-50% of your total daily intake.

Hi Megs, Where some reading on this last part. You're mixing two different measurement. Are you "really" eating less fat...or is the ratio of protien/fat/carb changing b/c you are steadily increasing carbs? hence decreasing the fat percentage.

Assume you don't eat increase your calories (no reason to do that after all). Your protein stays the same, 30%. Then the rest of your calories have to be distributed between carbs and fat. If the number of carbs increases (assuming you don't eat 100% fiber, but foods from upper rungs), the calories coming from carbs will also increase, so to keep the total number of calories constant you would have to decrease something... and the only 'something' left is fat. So your fat intake decreases, both in grams and in percents, as long as your caloric intake stays constant.

Hmmm, haven't been counting calories, but I have been eating less fat. Before, every meal used to have a good amount of fat. I stopped eating the soup and instead subbed it with some cheesy chicken and I haven't had a fat craving since.

So it's a calculation gestimate. With an underlying assumption that calories aren't increasing. However is that really reality??? Once starting OWL calories and carbs HAVE increased. It there anything Dr. Atkins ever documented..... As you add more carbs you inherantly DO eat more calories and one of the foundations is to not be counting calories but looking at carbs and quality of the the carb choices you are making. I know I find that my fat levels are NOT changing with regards to calorie choices. The proportion or percentage changes b/c they are getting outweighed (some days) by the carb increase. But it's not really eating a lower fat diet - it's incorporating more carbs.
