  • Starvation Mode??

    Hi,

    This is day 25 for me and I just have a question. Ever since about the 11th day on this diet, I have had no appetite. I am literally forcing my self to eat. And after I eat, I get a really sick feeling. It's not that I dont want the food, its just that Im not hungry and I feel full all the time. I have allowed myself 1 piece of whole grain toast in the morning as far as carbs but that is only because If I dont eat something (I hate eggs or anything for breakfast) then I will binge by lunch and cheat. I have tried this diet so many times and this is the longest Ive lasted (hence adding the toast). Today, I had 1 piece of 100% wholegrain toast and a porkchop for lunch. I know I need to get my veggies in. I will probably have a big salad tonight. I read that Ketosis gets rid of cravings which it has done. I have not cheated once (besides my toast) and I am down 17lbs. Im just scared that I will end up in starvation mode if im not already. If I was would I still be losing? Im full of energy and am losing inches, I just dont know how else besides adding lots of carbs to get my appetite back. Any suggestions would help. Thank you in advance

    I would say yeah, you'd be in starvation mode by now if that's all you eat in a day. Your body will lose weight when you're consuming approximately 600 calories a day, but it's also losing muscle mass, not just fat, it isn't healthy, and you'll start playing around (in a not good way) with your metabolism if you haven't already.

      Exactly what phase of the Diet are you in right now and/or for the last 25 days?

      Post your typical menu including the amounts.

      If your "salads" are nothing but lettuce, you're not helping yourself in terms of carbs OR in terms of nutrients. Lettuce has about 1 carb per 1 cup. The majority of our daily carbs are to come from vegetables. That means if you are eating 20 net carbs a day and your primary vegetable is lettuce, then you'll have to eat at least 11 cups of lettuce.

      As for the toast, most whole grain breads are about 15-20 net carbs per slice. So eating that piece of toast isn't helping you out at all because you're essentially consuming your entire or 70% of your daily carbs with that one slice. PLUS that's quite a carb load for a single meal. You're lucky it's not messing up your blood sugar.

      You don't have to eat eggs for breakfast. I rarely do. You can eat any protein you want for breakfast. I frequently have chicken salad or tuna salad for breakfast. Sometimes I have leftovers from last night's dinner. And you don't have to eat a 3 course meal for breakfast. If a few tablespoons of chicken salad is all I have the appetite to eat, that's all I eat. I just make sure to bring along a mid-morning snack in case I get hungry before lunch.

        I agree with the others and would want to see your menus. I ran into a bump where I was never hungry. Now I am hungry again - but not craving and I KNOW the difference. For breakfast I like a hamburger with a fried egg on top, or leftovers. The other day I ate shrimp scampi for breakfast and polish sausage (homemade fresh) the day before. I have to force myself to eat breakfast. Usually I'll eat a piece of cheese and that will get me going and open up my mind to eating.
