  • Ok, so maybe I'm borrowing trouble...

I started the Dairy rung on Thursday. So, let's say, hypothetically, I do it for a week, and lose no weight nor inches on my measurements.

    What then?

No change in weight/measurements could be one of two things:

    1) The increased dairy (mostly cheeses - expanded the quantity and the variety - I really dislike milk and plain yogurt) is the problem.
    2) The increased carbs are the problem and I have a pretty low ACE.

How would I work out which is the problem?

Also - given that my pattern seems to be no change for a week or two, then whoosh...maybe one week isn't long enough to see if it's a problem for me or to determine my ACE. What do ya'll think?

Yeah, I'm borrowing a problem I don't have right now. I just like to plan things out as much as I can (and it's also helping me think about the additional rungs as I hit them).

I suppose you could see if dropping down by 5 net carbs but keeping the dairy works for you? Or dropping the dairy extra carbs but adding 5 net carbs more of induction-legal veggies?
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

I think that's how I'd have to do it, I guess...

This is why OWL rocks - by doing it by food type and in stages, you can figure out what works for you and what doesn't, huh?

        You are right.

Some people approach the rungs by first going up 5 net carbs with the previous rung foods then swapping out those 5 net carbs with the new rung foods, in order first to test the new carb level then the new foods.

That's a good idea - I have to admit I'm having trouble adding five carbs of dairy (I don't like milk in particular).

Ricotta cheese is another good one.
Perhaps you could do some Mascarpone?

Prior to Atkins I only ate cheese on pizza (I avoided it on my mexican food and I even disliked nachos), had ice cream once in a while, and that was it for me and dairy. Just didn't like it at all. I sorta liked yogurt - I forced it down in order to get some dietary dairy - but I didn't mind at all giving it up when I went on induction! I relied - still do - on calcium and vitamin D supplements to address the dietary shortfall.

Since I went on Atkins, I find that I'm falling in love with the medium and hard cheeses. However, thus far, the soft cheeses - not grooving on them much. I really dislike cottage cheese - it reminds me of, well, spoiled milk.

As I look over my daily eating the past few days - I haven't done a very good job of adding in those extra five carbs consistently via dairy. So I'm actually falling short of the 5 added carbs a day right now. Darn it!

I wonder if it would be wise to add in the five carbs via veggies - which when I've been over my old count it's been mostly via veggies anyway - see how that does, then just skip dairy and go over to the Rung 3?

It think that would be fine just add in the extra veggies and go from there. You can always add in a dairy later if you feel like trying it. OWL is a ladder but we are allowed to skip some steps and go backwards now and again.

I think I'm going to do that instead - I'm really grooving on how much veggies have become a part of my diet compared to pre-Atkins and really spending more time with those seems ideal to me right now.

I'll do that the rest of the week this week and then move on to the next rung.

                  Thanks!

Cheese is a very high calorie food, and I wouldn't recommend adding an extra 5g's of carbs from hard cheese, that would be an awful lot of cheese and I think would definately cause an issue.

If you really don't want to do dairy, then don't. Just move up another rung a
