  • HAPPY! HAPPY! HAPPY! (WHOOSHIE FAIRY)

Hi, I am soooooooo happy! I finally broke my stall! I've been stuck for months! I even went up from 171 to 175 when I got really addicted to nuts, and started drinking way to much coffee with cream. Talk about lying to yourself! It's so easy to think your doing alright. I never went over 25 carbs a day...but then I was replacing real food with nuts. Maybe it's not really a stall, just self sabotage since I was eating to much of these things. I quit coffee, nuts and cream 4-5 days ago and had an 8 pound whooshie! Yesterday I was 5 pounds lighter, today 8 pounds!!!! I am doing virtual cartwheels! I was re-reading DANDR and read Carb creep? on page 188...and my answer was there. I am also wondering if I have an intolerance to nuts because they contain mold, and I have a mold allergy really bad. He addresses this in chapter 26, starting at page 338. The withdrawal from the nuts were really bad. I finally stopped dreaming about them, and thinking about them every waking minute.

I just started the berry rung this week to. Sadly...I had 1/8 cup of blueberries 3 times this week and each time provoked a more severe sugar craving than the last. Next week I'll try strawberries......so sad, I love blueberries. I got rid of the intense sugar cravings last night by taking 1000 mg of L-Glutamine, it worked. Those old, awful, sugar cravings that came back, disappeared! Found this info (again) on page 308. I had forgotten this trick, but had the vitamins on hand from reading DANDR at the beginning of this WOE.

Dr. Atkins was one smart man! I was starting to get frustrated, and was getting negative thoughts like, "this diet isn't working for me". All I had to do is pick up that book and the answers to my problems were right there in black and white! This diet does work.....we just have to listen to Dr. Atkins and follow his program. I believe we should follow it to the letter. He had a reason for everything he wrote. I will be so much more careful on the rungs. Sadly, I'll be cutting out the nut rung all together....I hope I can handle some of the berries on the berry rung. I'm still heartbroken over the blueberries. :sadblinky
    But whooshie fairies ROCK!!!!!! :icondance

Good for you for recognizing your triggers.

Just a word of caution, whenever you eat the fruit (berries and the ones on the other fruit rung), eat them in combination with some kind of fat. I eat fruit together with cheese or cream. Sometimes I mix them into a vegetable salad or use them as a "fruit salsa" with some kind of meat like chicken.

Eating them in combo with a fat or fat + protein will help blunt the insulin response.

YES! that's it, triggers!!! Great summary! I ate the blueberries mixed with 2 TBSP of whipped cream cheese, then I broke up one of my flax muffins and put it in the bowl with the blueberries and cream cheese. What do you think? No real good protein with it, I ate it as a snack between meals. Should I give it a try with protein? The fruit salsa with meat sounds very good. I could incorporate them into recipes, oh that sounds good! Thank you!

I had more good news today. My total cholesterol dropped from 239 down to 209! The 239 test was done on December 29. The 209 test was done yesterday, got results today. :icondance

I try not to eat fruit as snacks...for me at least, I'm less tempted to "eat just a little more" when I eat them as part of a meal, like for dessert or as a fruit salsa or sauce. Same thing with nuts for me. I do better portion control-wise if I incorporate them into something..chopped and mixed into cream cheese, chopped and sprinkled on a veggie dish, whole put in a salad, etc.

After dinner, I had the same blueberry, cream cheese and flax muffin mix. I had no problem. It worked to have it right after a good protein meal. Theres hope! Thank you! :yes
