  • HELP! You've fallen off the diet!

So you’ve eaten off plan during the holidays and now you want to get back on the right track.

Should you go back to Induction?

If you are totally out of ketosis, either by the stix or by the physical signs of ketosis. And if you do go back, go back long enough to get back into ketosis and then pick up where you left off in your OWL.

Should you pick up where you left off?

If you have been eating less than 100 net carbs daily, you should still be in ketosis. A ketogenic diet is defined as being one where the daily carbs are less than 100-130 carbs. So picking up where you left off is a great plan.

Should you drop back to your previous carb level, for a week or so then pick up where you left off?

Again, make sure you are still in ketosis. But eating at your previous carb level, then moving back to where you left off is a great plan too.

HELP! You've fallen off the diet!
EEK! What a horrible thing to have to think about right after all the wonderful holidays!!!

But wait... I've got NO INTENTION (just like you) of falling off the diet,
        NO MATTER WHAT!!!

BUT... a little INSURANCE can't hurt, can it - and those of us higher up on the ladder may find it easier to lose our control, especially if there are pushers all around...

I'm going to temporarily eat strict induction BEFORE Christmas for a few days just to be on the safe side.... after all, it's pretty easy at this time of year to lose count of all the nuts out there!

That is really smart. I do the same thing. For Thanksgiving I was STRICT on induction. I was like a turkey fiend. Because I was strict, I was not tempted. I plan on doing the same for the next week. I have been into ground CHicken breast and pork tenderloin and I am the Salad King! Good luck and Merry Christmas!

My planned cheat on Christmas will be wine. I will have no problem with the food part. I will have yummy legal snacks and dinner is usually prime rib (I go to my cousins). But the wine, oh the wine. I plan on having a few glasses of some really good stuff. But I know a little goes a long way now, and I DO NOT want a hangover so I will be good. I am doing too good to screw this thing up right now.

Re: HELP! You've fallen off the diet!

Well, I can tell you now, it was worth it! Not only did I make my mini-goal on the morn of Christmas Eve (155) by backing down the ladder to the ground awhile, it got my willpower enough extra charge to resist a stocking full of goodies from Santa, a Russel Stover's 2 lb box of chocolate candies from an out-of-town relative, several passed rounds of homemade cookies eggnog and an extra -loaded basket full of 49 different beautifully packaged evil temptations! I did eat one (1) chocolate covered almond from DM's Whitmans sampler, but made the honor roll for goodness otherwise.

4 more days to go before I weigh back at home on my scales to go, tho'...
There's where my other planning should pay off - I've got an arsenal of LC treats & yes, frankenfood if necessary to fill out my menu around the family's planned meals (I'm visiting here self-contained, so to speak). Thank heavens, they are having plenty of Atkins friendly choices with meals so far!

No cheats on my part. I ate according to my Pre-Maintenance plan and did fine-----watching all my overweight/obese relatives scarf down cake, pie, cookies, chips, etc. helped too (makes you lose your appetite for those things!)

I watched the same as my relatives told me how good I looked yadda yadda yadda and how did I do it? I told them the Atkins diet and I watched them eat like hogs shoving tons of carbs down their throats and then complain about their diabetes and ankles swelling etc. I kept thinking to myself as I watched my aunt shoot herself with insulin, I said "Self be glad you gained some sort of self control or you'd be sticking yourself also".
Actually it was hard at first then the ham, turkey, salads, and everything low carb I loaded up on did the trick and the tables loaded with the garbage didn't even appeal to my curiosity.
Diabetes runs rampant in both sides of my family so after I quit smoking my weight went through the roof and the risk of being diabetic increased. So I figured my only hope for survival was the Atkins Diet.
