  • Help me figure out what to expect please.

I have been thinking about OWL. I can't quite figure out my metabolic resistance. Dec 29th I started South Beach induction and continued it the next week. On the third week I was at my moms trying to do induction but eating some frankenfoods. Weeks 4 and 5 are clean atkins induction and today is the end of the 5th week.

    Wt loss was as follows:
    1 SB 2#
    2 SB 3#
    3 ANA + fknfd 3#
    4 ANA 0
    5 ANA 1#

I just had to do things screwy. Anyone have any ideas?

I promise to eat all my eggs, So take these bulges from my legs!
I'll eat my pork--I'll eat a steer--Just smooth these bumps off of my rear!
I'll never even look at jelly,Please take the blub out of my belly.
These lips will never taste a sweet, (Oh if I could only see my feet!)
So, please, tonite before I wake,
    A few more pounds--Whoosh Fairy--take!

I'd just take the weight lost on Atkins in three weeks (3-5) instead of two, so 4 lbs. There's no formula to account for how much you could have lost on Atkins in weeks 1-2.

    That being said...

I was looking at your menus in Fitday. Ricotta is not one of the cheeses allowed during induction. You also ate "Cheddar or American"... well, while cheddar is indeed allowed, American cheese is not. The reason is here:

It has traditionally been made from a blend of cheeses, most often Colby and Cheddar. Today’s American cheese is generally no longer made from a blend of all-natural cheeses, but instead is a processed cheese (i.e., it is manufactured from a set of ingredients such as milk, whey, milkfat, milk protein concentrate, whey protein concentrate, salt) which meets the legal definition of cheese.
Also, during induction, you should have three cups of veggies every day -- two from the salad list and one from the "other" list OR three from the salad list. If we look at, for example, the 28th... you had one serving of hot pumpkin cereal (the only veggie in that being 1/4c pumpkin), 2oz crushed tomatoes... and that's about it in terms of veggies. Then on the 27th, while you did indeed have about the right amount of veggies, your three cups consisted only of veggies from the "other" list.

Cheese is also limited to 4 oz a day until you reach Rung 2 of OWL, but yesterday (29th) you had 5 ounces.

I'm not trying to bash you, but determining your degree of metabolic resistance might be even more difficult than you think. The best thing you can do, imo, is to climb up the rungs, do everything by the book, and see how you react to different foods and to different levels of carbs.

    Edited to add:
I just went through the last few posts in your journal. I see you are aware of the >4oz cheese issue...

I couldn't find just plain cheddar. I haven't eaten any american cheese. Ricotta is an oops. I get confused with the cheeses. SB let you eat ricotta. I have the list on the fridge and have looked at it a few times.

Vegies have been a problem for me the last few days. After I ate that faux potatoes I had a hard time eating vegies for a bit. I hate cauliflower but just had to try it. I am glad someone likes it!

No!!! I do not feel bashed. I appreciate constructive criticism.

I never noticed there's no cheddar in Fitday (I'm using thedailyplate.com). The nutritional info for cheddar is here:

I count my cheddar on Fitday the same way.
So you have lost 9 lbs since December 29th? What did you lose on the Atkins part of it?

            ends today

            Second question is
How slowly should I take the OWL ladder? I was thinking 2-3 weeks at each rung.

Duh! I did not realize those numbers were pounds.
It looks good for weightloss. You nicely the first few weeks of low carbing and it is normal to see a pause after that.
How long to stay on each rung is really up to you. And it also depends on how many new foods you want to try out since you need a week on each new thing. Some people go fast a few weeks on each. I have spent over a year on the ladder.

sounds like a good plan to me

BTW fitday has one entry called
                cheese, natural, cheddar,
which might be better to use.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!
