  • Help do I have to start over?

Last Sunday at a party I caved and totally went off the diet, champagne and olive puffs. Before that I had been in the bright purple range on the keatone stick and know I'm in the low to moderate slightly pink range. Do I need to go back to induction for a full two weeks to get back up there? I really love being able to have my coffee and splenda in the morning?

I'm also tring to give up the nicotine gum I've been chewing for 10 years (gave up smoking for an addition to nicorette) and have transferred to dentyne gum with xyantol which I though made it a harmless sin, but if I have to go back to induction I will have to count the 20 pieces each day as all my allowbale carbs. Any thoughts.

please don't say that instead of eating your vegetables you are choosing to eat gum instead for the allowable carbs? I'm sure I completely misunderstood you because no body that has ever read the book Dr Atkins New Diet Revolution would ever do that, so I must be mistaken, right?

Anyways, after a binge, it's usually fine to maybe have a day or two of induction and then go back to the rung you were on to get back in the fat burning mode. Drink lots of water... and read the book you silly! and cut it out with all that gum! That's not good for you!

    Congratulations on quitting smoking.

Whew moving back up to purple No but the gum is a must for me so I do the vegetables and even blueberries last week lots of spinache, cucumbers, salads, and use slight peppers and tomotoes in cooking but the gum does have to be taken into account. During induction though, that was rough because all 20 went to gum but now there's a lot more breathing room. I need to review my owl rules though because I tend to stick to one or two vegies instead of spreading it around

ok this is a bit of a lecture...sorry, but I can't help it.

You don't think is a good idea to let go that gum? ..I mean, it is already 10 yrs, I think (but this is just my opinion) that this is a great oportunity for you to be FREE of any adiction and that gum sound like one!

        Good Luck.

Gosh - how did you manage induction without eating any eggs, cheese, cream or other sweeteners than your gum, which you must have done if you did induction by counting gum as all your net carbs?!?!

With dedication/willpower like that I bet it would be a doddle for you to ease off the gum now and get back to doing Atkins proper!
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

You cannot have that much gum on induction. You are only allowed three sweeteners.
And you do not have to be dark on the ketone sticks. Light is perfectly fine.
Remember it is about health - more than anything else.

Re: Help do I have to start over?

I'm just glad induction is over, thats why the idea of having to go back was killing me. I stopped the nicotine 3 days now but have replaced it with dytene gum. I can't seem to stop the chewing. After a month or so without nicotine at all then I will try to wean the chewing habit. One step at a time - with my family history of addiction - alchohol drugs etc - I give myself a little leeway. Yeah steady progress back to purple.

As far as getting through induction, that was very difficult I allowed myself 10 pieces of nicotene gum a day (insomniac that I am that means I could have one every two hours or so and have 1 or 2 for emergencies) then I let myself have a lot lot lot of protein, including eggs as the books said I could eat those liberally, also 1 cup cucumbers and 1/2 avocado . Did that for 14 days, it was hard but not that hard and it seemed to work. Now I eat a lot more spicache, salads and cheeses. I don't seem to have an eating problem when I'm on Atkins aas a matter of fact I have to remind myself to eat, but a chewing addiction that I definately have, I will chew the same piece of gum now until it desintigrates. Now to add in excercise - I think I can use this to justify getting a Wii and the Wii fit.

Chantix is one of those FDA approved drugs which can be used to get over smoking habit. It works on body by giving you the same feel good effect like smoking and hence reduces the craving for nicotine. This medicine should only be used in accordance with the instructions of a physician as there are various side effects which may vary from person to person and it includes change of taste, sleeplessness and many more. I have smoked for more than 10 yrs, but now I am spending a smoke free life from last 2 months. Thanks to chantix. Along with having this medicine, you should also have will power and feeling that you want to get over this habit. Best luck to all those who want to give up smoking.
