  • Fage yogort..now i know what you mean!

I just started Rung 2..i added 5g Carbsof Fage Greek Yogort-full fat.

I have to say it was kinda weird eating a dessert type thing but wow it was delicious...cant wait for the berry rung now lol i add berries to it.

The 100g i ate felt quite heavy in my stomach, totally fills you up. So hoping this wont stall me cos i like it a lot.
Anybody got any suggestions for any recipes for it?

    Thanks
    Danielle

Re: Fage yogort..now i know what you mean!

I eat it mostly plain. Sometimes I throw in some sauteed celery and celery root, mint, dill, garlic, lemon juice and olive oil to make a dip for vegetables.

For the dip, what I use is 7 oz Fage, 2 oz shredded celery root, 1 oz thinly sliced celery, 1 garlic clove, 2 tbsp mint leaves, lemon juice from one lemon wedge (maybe 1 tbsp... I never measured it), 1 tbsp dill, butter and olive oil. Saute the celery and garlic in butter, add the dill and the mint leaves. When they are done, mix them with yogurt, lemon juice and 1 tsp of olive oil, and then chill. I eat this with cucumber sticks and pepper strips.

Edited to add: By the way, you might want to add salt or salt and pepper to this. I usually don't add salt to food.

Ok, I want to know where to get fage yogurt. I live in the U.S. and unfortunately am limited to what WalMart carries most of the time. Where do you buy it?

Ever, if you are in the Northeast, Shoprite carries it.

Danni, add a heaping helping of tandoori spice mix and a squirt of lemon to make tandoori chicken marinade. Mmmmm. I also use instead of sour cream sometimes. My family can;t tell the difference so it is a great substitution when I am out of the sour cream.

I also make tsatsiki with it by adding garlic and chopped cucumber. Or slice the cucumbers and make it a salad instead.

our Walmart carries Greek Yogurt - I don't know if the brand is "Fage" or not but they do have Greek Yogurt, I almost bought some yesterday but decided to stay on Rung 1 a little longer.

Hi imagood 1. I stayed on Rung 1 for two weeks, tried out 2 new veggies, didnt stall. I am on my first week of Rung 2, just adding the Greek Yogourt 3 times per week.
Going to stay on Rung 2 a little longer, try out diffrent cheeses. You know i never paid attention to how many diffrent cheeses there is...so surprised, looking forward to trying them out.

I made some 'naan breads' to go with my chicken tikka and caulirice, which worked well.

I adapted the rev roll recipe using 3 eggs, 3 tablespoons of fage yogurt, 4 tablespoons of ground almonds and a pinch of salt, then spread out 4 naan-shaped piles on a baking sheet and baked in the oven.

For rung 2 you could make them without the ground almonds

Not the same as a 'real' naan but acceptable for dipping in the tikka sauce, which I made from the tikka marinade plus a little sweetener.

We tried some Lidl's Creamy Greek Yoghurt yesterday - it is very creamy and absolutely yummy. We both preferred it to the Fage, and I thought the Fage was good. The nutrition counts are similar - allthough the Lidl's carb count is slightly lower.

PS - it is also less than half the price of the Fage!

Whole Foods is the only place close to me that carries it--and that is not close. Even when you can find it, it's hard to get the full fat (Total).

I didn't even like yogurt until I tried Fage. One bite and I was hooked. Good stuff!

Mix fage with chopped fresh dill, ground firm cucumber, minced garlic and a little sea salt and you have heaven in a bowl.
People who say it can't be done, should not interrupt those doing it.

Just a bit more info re the Lidl's yogurt. The ingredients list is not printed in English - it just says creamy yoghurt, so I've just looked up the ingredients in an online Swedish/Danish/Norwegian dictionary (I'm either sad or dedicated or a bit of both!) It contains milk, milk protein, cream and yoghurt culture. I suppose the cream contained within it could be the reason for the slightly lower carb count - and of course the creamy taste! It also has 10% fat. I'm going to keep eating it as long as it doesn't cause me problems - I think from those ingredients it is legal for rung 2. I'll need to be careful with my cream intake, but that isn't a problem for me. It is just yuuuuuuummmmmmmyyyy!

The Fage total fullfat yogurt here has 3.2 net carbs per 100 grams (about 1/2 cup), the Lidl brand greek yogurt has less (2.8 net carbs).

You do need to find an unsweetened, unflavoured yogurt, as the flavoured ones are more carby.

I have a question about the FAGE yogurt. I saw it in the health food store. I thought it seemed ok to eat during induction but I could be wrong as many of you are in OWL. Is this ok for induction?
