  • I must admit....

Ok you all i must admit that during induction that I was in the very beginning of it using fitday and recording everything that I was eating andd most times i was under the 20 net carbs. Now saying that, the last time i was on atkins i failed miserably because i was so sick of measuring and weighing and using fitday day and night that I just quit. That was one of the main reasons I quit. So I measured for a week until i felt like i could eye the portions unless it was a veggie i hadnt used before then i would measure out the cup or half cup.

Using this method I was able to succeed thus far and not cheat not even once! Ive lost 13 pounds and the 9th of March will make me on Atkins for a whole month! Heres the problem, how can i move up the rungs if I dont really know the net carbs exactly? Or should i just measure the extra 5 carbs and move from there?

In the end i wont have a number to go by but i will know how much food i can eat and still lose. Does that make sense?

Another question i have is how can i eat more food when im having to force myself to eat now? Its really been very tough to eat as it is.

Why were you weighing the veggies during Induction? If you are in the UK, where they don't typically use cups measurements, then weighing might be easier for you. But if you are in the US where you can buy a set of measuring cups at almost every grocery store, I don't see why you would need to weigh and measure.

That was one of the main reasons I quit.
That would make me quit too! Don't make this more difficult than it already is.

So I measured for a week until i felt like i could eye the portions unless it was a veggie i hadnt used before then i would measure out the cup or half cup.
Estimating the veg is possible, but I wouldn't rely on it 100% of the time. At least a few times, put it in a cup and measure it. Just to make certain you aren't over-estimating or under-estimating. I remember once I got used to estimating a cup and when I re-measured, I found that my estimated "cup" was really 1/2 cup.

You can't. Each veggie, each fruit, each legume, each grain has its very own 5 net carb volume. For example, about 15 cups of lettuce has 5 net carbs, 1/4 cup of blueberries has about 5 net carbs and about 2 tablespoons of uncooked oatmeal has about 5 net carbs. So you can't just say 1 cup of anything has 5 net carbs.

You'll have to measure your foods.

In the end i wont have a number to go by but i will know how much food i can eat and still lose. Does that make sense?
It makes sense, but will it work? It's easy to get messed up during OWL especially if you aren't paying careful attention to the amounts and the foods you are eating. So if you guess your way through, you may have a hard time----especially if you have a low or moderate range CCLL. Going over your CCLL even by 3 carbs can stop your weight loss.

Another question i have is how can i eat more food when im having to force myself to eat now? Its really been very tough to eat as it is.
It depends on what you are currently eating. If you have used lettuce and other raw veggies as your vegetable source, then you'll have tough time eating an additional 5 net carbs of those foods. Again, about 15 cups of lettuce is 5 net carbs. So you'll either have to cook the vegetables to reduce their volume or you'll have to pick the veggies from the lists with a higher net carb count.

      I live in the Gulf.

I thought that weighing them on the scale would be more accurate then trying to stick for instance pieces of cauliflower in a measuring cup -especially since i like to cook big pieces and not like shred the cauliflower into small pieces.

So now should i measure out a couple of days or so and see how many net carbs im eating so i can move correctly into WOL?

I also tend to weigh my veggies, and used the sticky in the induction forum which lists the weight of a cup of most of the veggies to help me stick to the '3 cup' rule.

Can you remember roughly what you ate over the last few days? If so you could add them to fitday and see what net carbs you were eating to have a baseline to add to for OWL.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!
