so confused with owl.....

  • so confused with owl.....

    I have read all thestickies on here and i think i have managed to over complicate things in my head!

    I was going to move to OWL today but im a bt scared to now incase i do it wrong!!!

    Im in the UK and struggle with cups / measurements in general but i thought i was adding 5g of vege's to my induction average now for rung 1......am i wrong ?
    Have i overread to much ?

    Is there a list nywhere of the carb content to most vege's ??

    im sorry to ask all these questions but im getting myself into a bit of a state over this!

    Yes, in OWL Rung 1, you are supposed to add another 5 g of net carbs coming from vegetables to what you have been eating during Induction. If you are eating the same vegetables you had during Induction, then simply increase your carbohydrate intake. However, if you are adding a new vegetable, you will have to eat it only every other day. It also better not to increase your carbohydrate intake in weeks when you introduce a new food item, so that if your weight loss stalls it will be easier to figure out what the problem is -- the extra carbs or the new food.

    Is there a list nywhere of the carb content to most vege's ??
    I am using FitDay now. In the past I've used DailyPlate, NutritionData and CalorieKing. You can Google for any of them.

        one more!!!!

        When i add my 5 g net carbs - can i add different things that total 5 g ??

        eg - i have been eating muchrooms thru induction, however i avoided lettuse because of its low carb level - im going to add lettuce but cant eat 5g!!! can i add a few extra mushrooms as well? so i could have 2/6 carbs lettuce and another 2 carbs of mushrooms ?

          Com'on... 15 cups of lettuce (5 carbs) is not that much!

              There is a fairly comprehensive list of what amounts of various foods are 5 net carbs here in the OWL forum - called 'the power of five'


              Also in the 14-day induction forum there is one which lists the weight of a cup and fractions of a cup of most of the induction vegetables which is very useful for we non-USA members who would never dream of measuring a solid food with liquid measures as is done in USA

                Hi Stephie -- what I have done practically from the beginning is I make a salad - I start with a cup lettuce and add vegetables until I am up to 5 carbs total...peppers, green onion, mushrooms, boiled egg, celery, zucchini, whatever you have. I make it as colorful as I can - I can't imagine not eating lettuce and getting through induction -- that was what I used as the filler around everything else.

                try brussel sprouts - they count as .98 net carbs per sprout so add 5 to your meal and you have your 5 carbs. 4 ounces of broccoli is 4.6 net carbs. 6 ounces of cauliflower is 4.7 net carbs. If you figure the foods out of FitDay it will tell you the amounts - deduct the fiber and you have the net carbs.

                  iMAGOOD1 - i HATE sprouts with a passion - i would rather eat my own feet!!!!!! but i love the other stuff!
