  • contemplating owl, questions though

i've been on extended induction for almost 7 weeks. i'm fine with induction but the biggest reason i'm starting to think about moving on is i'm starting to get incredibly, incredibly sick of lettuce and salad veggies.
i've only just started poking around into the owl stickies, but i still have a few questions. am i still supposed to eat 3 cups of veggies in the same sort of way as induction on owl, and if i am how am i supposed to eat more carbs of veggies on rung 1 without eating more? can i cut down on the salad veggies when i start adding in my 5 more carbs of other veggies?

ugh nevermind, just read the veggie sticky. so i have to eat 3 cups PLUS 5 carbs more of either list? good god thats a lot of veggies..... a whole cup of broccoli minus the fiber is about 7carbs, so when i move on i'd have to eat 3 cups of veggies plus almost a whole other cup of broccoli to get in my 5 carbs?

You do eat more. You would eat what you eat in induction, plus 5 more carbs worth of vegetables. They can be from either list. So one day you might add 8 asparagus spears, another day you would eat your induction type menu plus 2/3 cup of summer squash. Your daily net carb count goes up by 5, and you don't stop eating your wonderful fiber rich salad veggies, nope nope nope!

If it seems like a really great deal of vegetables, double check your portions. Many of us tend to overportion things. For example, you measure broccoli uncooked, same for cauliflower. If your portions are correct, it shouldn't seem excessive in my humble opinion.

But let no one ever say Atkins is a veggie-poor diet, agreed? lol!

yeah no joke. i think its going to get confusing as i go up the rungs as to how often i need to eat from each rung, and if you eat all 3 cups of veggies plus 5 from this rung, 5 from that rung, every single day. it seems like as you get up to the higher rungs you'd be absolutely popping from all that food

The volume of food decreases as you go up that ladder. 5 net carbs of lettuce is about 10-15 cups of the stuff, but less than 2 tablespoons of kidney beans is 5 net carbs.

There's another sticky about the reducing the volume of the veggies. If you like sauces, OWL rung 1 is great! Tomato sauce, red-pepper sauce, etc. These vegetable sauces are nice with meats and other veggies.
