  • End of first week of Rung 1

    Happy, Monday!

Today is my first weigh day on Rung 1, and I do not have good news to report! Except for cocktails I had at a Kentucky Derby party, I have been right on track with Rung 1. I've gotten in my water, veggies and excercise plus some - and I've stayed in fat burning mode except for about 12 hours on Thursday after I had, of all things, eggplant!

So, considering all of that it's a mystery to me to find myself UP 3 lbs!!

Years ago I tried Weight Watchers when they were doing their "fat 'n fiber" plan. I followed all the rules and did what I was supposed to do (if I can't do anything, I can diet!). Each week I'd either stay the same, gain, or be down .25 lbs. The instructor, who believed in "tough love" admonished me to stay the course and follow the plan! When I told her I was, even showing her my food diary, she'd just give me "one of those" looks, which to me said "you're cheating and not being truthful!" At the end of six weeks, another lady who joined the same time I did, got her 10 lb. pin. I'd lost 3 lbs. I sat in my car and cried!

Of course I've discovered since then that processed carbs and sugars are not my friend. That is why I do Atkins. So what do I do when I see the scales do what they did today? Drink my water, eat my veggies, get in the exercise and keep going!

I'm off to look up some recipes and go to the market.

    Take care all!!

Thanks for the info, Laurie. I'm not stressed that I gained, more befuddled! I knew having the cocktails on Saturday (gin and water) that I would burn the alcohol first, and at worst I'd stay the same. But to gain! Ah, well, I stayed away from the home made pecan pie with vanilla ice cream! That would really have pushed me back!!

A small change in sodium or fiber can make a major change at the scale for a couple of days. When I really get stuck I up my water and put in a really hard workout and I usually see a drop the next day. Hang in there!

Alcohol will definately cause you to retain water..don't worry the 3 lbs is most likely that.

After I have drinks i sometimes can't get my rings off for a couple of days because i'm so puffy.

What is wrong with eggplant? I made eggplant parm the other night and thought I was doing a good thing!! ACK. I am staying the same this week, trying to keep motivated.

Some folks are sensitive to different foods. We have had members who get cravings from celery and broccoli!

I can't eat any food that combines eggplant and tomatoes because I get cravings---really bad cravings---like the need to eat everything in the house, including the pipes and shingles! lol. however, I don't get cravings if I eat tomatoes or eggplant either on their own or in combination with other ingredients....only if both of them are cooked together.

Megs, that is so interesting! The eggplant didn't cause any cravings, but I knew something wasn't right because I started to bloat. I'm down 1 lb. of the 3 this morning, only the carb gods know how long it's going to take to get back down and start losing again (sigh)! And then today I may have made a unintentional error by eating butternut squash. We'll see if that effects me come tomorrow! Thus far, though, no bloat, so that may be a good sign!!

foods on Rung 1 are the same during induction -- only 5 additional net carbs - check your acceptable foods list, that way you will know which foods you can eat - if it's not the list you don't eat it.

Thanks, Carol! I think there's a problem with the link though. I get a "file not found" message when I click on it. I'll look through the "stickies" and see if I can find it.

Carol, thanks, again, for the link! Boy, I had no idea that butternut squash wasn't allowed until Rung 8!! I swear, sometimes this WOL feels just like a real diet LOL!

Butternut squash has caught many of us out
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

Butternut, acorn, hubbard are all winter squashes. I stick to yellow summer squash and zucchini as the safe ones. (But the others taste so good).
