    Okay so yesterday I weighed in at 174-doing great. I had finally got over my stall. I checked my weight this morning and it was 177. What happened? Could it have been the 2 cups of decaf coffee with cream and mocha flavored splenda (2 packets)? And the atkins bar (all phases)? Now I'm asking you people this question when I know the answer. I had completely cut out my coffee, tea, and lowered splenda consumption for the week and that's when my weight resumed. I guess what I don't understand is why can't I have DECAF coffee without this effect? I've heard coffee and decaf coffee still has carbs. But why would DECAF affect me? I don't get this. DANG! I almost cheated yesterday...my roommate bought pizza . The only way I know to do this diet cheat-free is to do alternatives to the thing I want. I was craving that pizza, but cooked up some bacon instead. I was craving sweets so had an atkins bar and decaf coffee instead. But that set my weight back-3pds! In one day! I'm getting frustrated because now I KNOW that I can not tolerate excess splenda consumption or caffeine. This SUCKS . Now what am I to do to combat any temptations when they arise? Having more protein or fat doesn't always help. I thought I was being smart with my "alternatives" but apparently that doesn't help me....

    Do you weigh yourself every day?

    This just sounds like daily weight fluctuation to me. The salt in the bacon could be enough that your holding a little extra water today.

      What meats and cheese did you eat yesterday? Could they have had some extra sodium to cause you to retain water? or maybe MSG somewhere along the way? I know i see 4-5 pound water fluctuations some days (happening today as a matter of fact) but it doesn't mean you aren't losing fat.

      The coffee probably wasn't the problem. Most likely it is the bars--they stall a lot of people. The trick is to retrain yourself not to eat the sweets and feed that sweet tooth. Then by the time you get to the berry rung (Rung 4) a Fage yogurt with some berries IS all the sweet you need for a rich creamy dessert. Try to stick it out without the substitutes and move up the rungs till you can legally have your berries or melon as your sweet. Its only a few weeks to wait.

        You could post your menu in the "Review My Menu" forum.

        Addictions to certain foods will go away once you stop feeding them with those particular foods or with low carb substitutes.

          Stay away from the Atkins bars... , I doubt it is the coffee that is making you gain...

            okay...i didn't think the bacon could be the cause. it was the first day i had 8 pieces of bacon....yea i did say 8! but i have been eating bacon daily (3 pieces) all along. i only notice weight stalls when i have coffee(with mocha flavored splenda) or atkins bar. basically, when i have and use excess splenda or artificial sugars. thanks for the advice. i can't wait to get to owl rung 4 so i can eat fruit. thanks everyone

              Maybe not the bacon but the salt in the bacon could do it. It just makes you retain water.

                Try cutting the Atkins bars (They're definitely not allowed on OWL rung 1 if you go by the book) and wait a week to see what happens. Weighing yourself daily is not recommended, a doctor friend said "You should weigh yourself on the same day/time under the same conditions" if you want to weigh yourself weekly, fortnightly etc. I weigh myself first thing in the morning before eating or drinking so I get a more accurate idea of my weight.

                I did a trial myself with the bars (they taste weird anyway, yuck) by having 3 over a week. I lost nothing during that time and dropped about 2lbs in a few days after cutting them out again. They also induce cravings and unpleasant problems in the bathroom, and your body could be processing the carbs meaning the count is closer to 20gm per bar.

                  Yea, I do that too GHB. I weigh myself first thing in the morning, every morning. That's why I got so depressed to be at 174 one day, then 177 the next. I'm not doing anything different. I don't know what's wrong.

                    Just don't weigh yourself every day and it will be fine, your weight will fluctuate on a daily basis anyway Commit to weighing yourself once a week at the most

                        The next time you are craving pizza, cut up a few slices of pepperoni, fry for a minute, add an egg and some Mozzarella cheese and you have a pizza omelette! And you have satisfied your craving without eating off plan. It works for me!

                          Or.. if you must have pizza... just eat the topping and do away with the crust.

                          You'll still get a good dose of salt and maybe a little sugar, but at least you won't be twisting yourself into a knot trying to avoid it.
