  • OK I'm freaking out...

Ok. So this morning my well intentioned fiance thought that he would surprise me by making me breakfast. He found my recipe for mock danish from Linda's site and decided to make me that. Well I thought it tasted pretty sweet and asked him about it. He said that he followed the recipe. Just now, as I was emptying the trash, I found 7 packets of splenda. I asked him if he used all of these packets and he said YES!!! The recipe calls for two teaspoons of granular splenda. He said it took alot of packets to fill two teaspoons. Trying to remain calm I explained to him that granular splenda and splenda packets are not the same thing. OMG!!! How bad do you think this is gonna hurt me? Don't think I'm gonna get most of my carbs from vegetables today, as it's almost time to make dinner. I want to kill him but he was just trying to be nice.

Take a deep breath & step away from the fiance! It will be okay. Drink plenty of H20 & stay on plan. Lesson learned & I'm sure he feels bad.

I wouldn't worry about it - you can't go back in the past & change anything anyway. Just stay on plan

It did nothing to your weight loss efforts.

I don't think there's a difference between sucralose in packets vs, sucralose in granular form, maybe just volume.

I really don't know because I don't use it. 1',4,6'-Trichlorogalactosucrose, aka Splenda, Sucralose belongs to a class of compounds known as organochlorides (or chlorocarbons). Some organochlorides, particularly those that accumulate in fatty tissues, are toxic to plants or animals, including humans. Sucralose, however, is not known to be toxic in small quantities and is extremely insoluble in fat; it cannot accumulate in fat like chlorinated hydrocarbons. In addition, sucralose does not break down or dechlorinate. Also, a variety of a simple chlorinated hydrocarbons including dichloromethane, chloroform, and carbon tetrachloride have been isolated from marine algae.

I think you should find a better reason to 'kill' your fiance.

Neutronnorman-Well considering that each packet of Splenda contains almost one gram of carbs, and the fact that we are supposed to limit sweeteners to three packets a day, I was/am a little concerned. That mock danish contained around 10 grams of carbs, none of which came from vegetables. When you are on owl rung 1 like I am, that's not exactly the best plan. Don't worry fiance is still alive and very much forgiven.

Thanks, I never did research on sucralose. Those types of compounds are not my in my field of interest. Glad fiance got a second lease on life. LOL. You got me wondering how many times my fiancee has mentioned in her diary or amongst her freinds that she wanted to murder me.

Your daughter is gorgeous! Take care and I wish you all the best.

Oh... nerdy name for sucralose. What is important here is that the difference between the packets and the granular form comes from the bulking agents used---maltodextrin and dextrose in the packets and maltodextrin in the granular form.

How bad do you think this is gonna hurt me?
Hard to say, but I believe the mistake is too small to affect you at all. Just watch out for cravings in case you get a cephalic response (there's a sticky thread about this in the "14-day Induction" forum).

BTW, looks like you have a very sweet boyfriend.

How many carbs are you eating daily on Rung 1? Most of us ate about 15-20.

Anyhow, eat your vegetables and the rest of the menu you planned. Chalk this up to a learning experience. Just keep this incident in mind when you weigh/measure in this week. So if you don't lose anything (or maybe even gain anything), you won't freak out as much. Just remain on course for another week before you move to Rung 2.
