  • ketosis - how long until I pop out?

    I am trying to find my CCLL and I am currently on rung 4... Yesterday, I had 55.2 carbs even though I was aiming for around 38-40 on this rung. I had more tomato sauce than I originally thought.

    *IF* this is going to kick me out of ketosis, how long does that usually take? I have been having around 40 carbs per day for about two weeks and still losing slowly. After logging everything into fitday last night, I thought I might wake up this morning and be out of ketosis, but I wasn't.

    What do you make of that? I keep re-reading the book and just when I think I am a Pro - I have more questions. Thanks!

    1st goal: 139 (earlier weight)
    what the rungs mean to me:
    rung 1 - more veggies
    rung 2 - dairy (some milk in coffee)
    rung 3 - seeds, nuts (mostly sprinkled on salads)
    rung 4 - berries, melon
    rung 5 - wine -
    rung 6 - beans, hummus
    rung 7 - other fruits
    rung 8 - carrots/ potatoes (nah, prolly not)
    rung 9 - whole grains (fresh Dutch breads...)
    Major Goal - 128 lbs/ healthy range
    (on to pre-maintenance)

    I doubt the extra 10 carbs will throw you out of ketosis. How was your blood sugar after this? Did you take the test on pp. 150-151? Keep these extra carbs in mind when you weigh next time.

    By the way, being in ketosis is not related to your CCLL. So even if you go slightly above your CCLL (so you don't eat something like 200 g of carbs), you will be going back and forth between glucosis and lipolysis, so you'll be still producing ketones even if they don't register on the ketostix.

        Okay, I took the test, Georgiana, and I am still okay, negative for blood sugar stress. The stick still reads ketosis. When you say that I should keep the extra carbs in mind when I weigh, does that mean that I almost certainly went over my CCLL? Why is this part so difficult for me to understand?

        I want you to tell me that because I went over 50 carbs today - that means that my CCLL is at least that much.

          The extra carbs might play a role even if you didn't go over your CCLL. Eating a few more carbs didn't make a big difference for me in the first weeks of OWL (I did OWL Rung 1 for many weeks and increased my carb level there... until I got bored), but now as I am getting closer to my CCLL, I have to measure and count everything carefully.

          I want you to tell me that because I went over 50 carbs today - that means that my CCLL is at least that much.
          Well, not really (sorry! ). Things will average (see the Pre-Maintenance chapter), so if you weigh something like once a week, you only had 2-3 extra net carbs daily.

            I'm not yet to OWL but I was wondering these same things. Thanks for asking such good questions, I'm learning a lot from this thread!
