    OK i get the adding the extra 5 carbs of Veg to my previous carb intake..my question is do I still do the 2 cups of 1 veg and 1 cup of other veg + the extra 5 carb veg..or can I do any veg amounting to the correct carb for the day...or can I do 12 - 15 carbs of any 2 vegetables of choice???

    Different people do different things at that point.
    I suggest sticking to the 2 cups - one cup and the extra five carbs. And then start to find out how many carbs you are totalling. It does not have to be 20 or 25 or 12. But once you hit OWL you need to start counting carbs so eat your usual 2 cup - 1 cup - 5 extra carbs and add it all up to see how many carbs you are at. And you have a good starting point for when you are ready for the next 5 carbs.

      I have pretty much stuck to what I did for induction but just added more of what I already ate. There wasn't really anything "new" that I wanted to add to my veggies. Seems to work ok for me that way.

        This is the safest way to do it and it's more in line with what Dr. Atkins wrote in the book. Remember you are testing your carbohydrate tolerance and you are testing your tolerance to individual foods and the amounts of those foods.

        If you add 12-15 net carbs of any veggie, you are eating in Pre-Maintenance amounts. This is another reason why I think the atkins.com method of veggies is a load of crap.

          OH I didn't mean to ADD that much veggies, I meant that as my total veg carb count for the day..

            Yes I think that what Meg is saying is that if you stop doing the cup thing you may do a thing like suddenly eat only onions to make up the 12 carbs or 15 carbs - and that would not be great. One of the tricks to managing OWL is to stay with the 5 carbs limit of anything we eat till we get to pre maintenance.
            So what are you doing right now? I am sure it is fine. It is hard to mess up veggies. So I always think it is very smart that the first rung is all about vegetables

              OK i posted my menu for today, i may have messed up yesterday and ate to much veg.
              I had my pancake for breakfast(listed the way I make it in todays menu thread) my jicama salad for lunch and for supper I had 3 small chicken thighs, 1½ of cauliflower cooked and 1 more cup of my jicima salad. My total Net carb count for yesterday was 19, 6 more carbs than my average of the 14day count which was total of 14 days divided by 14= 178 divided by 14=12.71(13)

              So if I am figuring this out right then I am 1 carb over for yesterday???
