  • Carbs in beer

I am considering having a beer. I am on the appropriate rung, but of course, I am not sure yet how it will affect me. About how many carbs are in one beer and for what size?

I live in The Netherlands and many of the beers here do not have the same type of nutrition label that I am accustomed to, if they have one at all. I don't really want an Ultra... sorry, Ultra fans. I want a good beer. Maybe the equivalent of something like a Sam Adams or (Georgiana?) a German dunkels?

Thanks for all who know such important inforamation!

    rung 5 - wine -
    rung 6 - beans, hummus
    rung 7 - other fruits
rung 8 - carrots/ potatoes (nah, prolly not)
rung 9 - whole grains (fresh Dutch breads...)

Here's a link: Beer Calories, Beer Alcohol, Beer Carbohydrates.

That website uses a serving size of 12 fluid ounces, which is about 360 ml.

Hmm, some of them are as high as 12 - 16 carbs in one 12 ounce beer. Not so sure I need to try that just yet. I guess I could only have half. Whew!

      Thanks for that.

Because I like stouts and lagers, I added beer by using them in recipes, for example, stews and even a cheese spread recipe.

Those ^ are the best domestic beers for carbs ....

Mizski did an excellent job in another thread explaining how alcohol affects Atkins, post #4 here: http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...induction.html

I'm in the induction phase, but I think I'll drink two beers over a three hour period watching a football game at a bar tonight. It's just 10 grams, and I feel dumb sitting there for three hours drinking Diet Pepsi. Ketosis will stop for maybe 24 hours, but I feel okay with that.

            Any input?

Lush! Just kidding. I would suspect that a beer, here and there would probably do little harm on a low CHO. Overindulgence will activate estrogen and estrogen receptor sites. Thus, a guy gets a beer belly, some chest fat and ladies get the bigger thighs and butts.

                  Re: Carbs in beer

i can understand wanting a REAL beer over an ultra (although I absolutely LOVE my ultra's and can have 2 or 3 when I'm drinking - no affect on my loss)...

most lights aren't too bad...coors light (yes I know, some say it tastes like water, lol)...isn't too bad...

Can you get Michelobe Ultra AMBER where you're at? It's got a much heartier taste at only 3.2 carbs per 12 oz...

course my favorite - sam addams cherry wheat is like 20 carbs or something.
