  • whining about wine

Okay, so I have moved into rung 5 and I think that wine is stalling me. Has this happened to anyone? I have not allowed it to lower my inhibitions and begin snacking on illegal foods. I have only had it after the last meal of the day and controlled the amounts. However, for the last five days, (I have had wine three) I have gained a small amount of weight each day.

This morning, I was up a pound and I am still in ketosis. What do you think? Wine? I am thinking that I will go two weeks without it and see where I am and then re-introduce it.

Would love your opinions on this. Thanks.

    Re: whining about wine

I've seen it before around here...

How much wine did you drink? Are you sure you only had 5 net carbs of it?

I think you're doing the right thing by giving it up to see how your weight changes.

      Re: whining about wine

The first two times, I had one glass. The last time (last night) I had two glasses. It was closer to ten carbs, but I had not had the usual nuts or berries so I thought it would be okay. It ended up being around 35 carbs for the day. I know that I can usually go up to 40 and still lose. Once, I even got up to 50 and was not bumped out of ketosis. So, I don't know....

Figure, I ought to quit for a bit.

        Re: whining about wine

Wine really is my nemesis... and I love it. Whenever I get beyond my buffer zone (like now) I try to cut the wine and sugar-free chocolate. Two killers for me. Been struggling a while with this, but have now been three days wine and choc free!

I think any alcohol causes a slight fluid retention, which might explain your sudden weight gain... but be very wary. Experiment with and without for a few days and see how your weight reacts. I think you have to look at minimum a week-long picture to see clearly.

Quick question...so if you decide to go two weeks without the wine, do you also go back to your rung 4 carb level? Or do stay with the extra 5 daily carbs and just get them somewhere other than wine?

Thanks...I'm trying to figure out the OWL process!

Preferably keep the carb level unchanged and substitute the alcohol carbs with veggie carbs. That way you know if it was the extra carbs that caused you problems or the food/drink you tried to add back.

How are you with drinking Spirits? Gin and Vodka are zero carb, and you can often find mixers without carbs and splenda type sweetener. In the UK Sainsburys Slmline Mixers are Carb and Aspartame free, (and their gin is cheap too lol).
Also them being a LONG drink they last longer. OR have half wine (dry has LOWER carbs) and mix with half soda (not sure what u call it in the states, its fizzy water lol), also a long drink, and mixed with ice and a slice is great in hot weather.
(Sorry but alcohol is my forte lol)

Dont forget tho, while your body is burning the alcohol it isnt burning fat so you will get a false positive ketosis until its burnt off

                  Re: whining about wine

That is right about the positive ketosis, I forgot about that - ugh. Pretty complicated. I like vodka okay and I have mixed it with "fizzy water" plain and it is pretty good. We called it fizzy water here in The Netherlands, too. I think in the states it is carbonated water and not as popular there.

I guess I will try the vodka this week-end, maybe. I was really looking forward to the wine.

                    Re: whining about wine

If I remember right it's called sparkling water in America. I've always called it fizzy or bubbly water.

I haven't had a problem with wine, except I get tipsy off the littlest bit.

That is very true. It takes a LOT less to get tipsy when doing Atkins. In my experience anyway...
