  • What kind of carbs do I add after induction?

I am about to finish up induction with 5.5 lbs lost of my goal total of 20lbs. I have been eating less than 20 net carbs per day and am wondering if I've done my homework correctly.. the first rung is the more induction acceptable veggies- so I add 5 more net carbs of the green beans and zucchini I've been eating for how long? A week? Then I move to rung 2 in Owl where I can have hard dairy cheeses.. what if I don't like them- can I skip to rung 4 which is Berries? And with each rung am I continuing to add 5 net carbs until I get through the rungs and am within 10lbs of my goal weight? Then I switch to pre-maintenance where I add 10 carbs each week until I reach the point where I am not gaining or losing? Typically how long do people like to stay on each rung of owl?? I don't have the new atkins book so I'm just trying to find different places on the internet that tell me when and what I can have...

    Thanks!

You start OWL from Rung 1, by adding 5 net carbs of vegetables. So no nuts (OWL Rung 3), fresh cheeses, milk, yogurt (OWL Rung 2) or berries (OWL Rung 4) yet.

I would definitely try to add starchy vegetables (OWL Rung in OWL, because if they have an impact on your blood sugar, it's likely this will be lower than if you were to add them in 10 net carb amounts.

Read the sticky threads in this forum to see how OWL should be done: Ongoing Weight Loss (OWL) - Atkins Diet

Try to get the 2002 edition of DANDR too. And in the meantime, keep asking questions.

Thanks girly!!! It gets so hard to understand some of this stuff some times.. I think people try to make it more complicated than it really is! I'll start eating more of the vegetables that I love for a few weeks and then I'll tackle throwing in an extra 5 carbs with nuts and berries. Awesome..can't wait!!

The second OWL rung is Dairy - so milk, yogurt, fresh cheeses are the new additions.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!
