  • OWL confusion

So today was my first day on OWL.
i decided to eat some berries(60g, 5g Carb), since i was really missing eating fruit and i have been always been good eating my vegetables (i used to be vegetarian so vegetables are still my favorite food).

Does it mean that for this week i can only eat berries as the extra 5g carbs? or can i have some extra vegetables sometimes instead of the berries?

    Re: OWL confusion

In the 2002 plan, which is the one we go by at ADBB, OWL starts with OWL Rung 1, by adding 5 net carbs of vegetables (not berries) to the Induction menu. So if you had, let's say, an average of 17 net carbs during Induction, then you add 5 net carbs (from veggies) and aim for 22 net carbs.

If you are trying a new vegetable (or any new food, as you move up the Carbohydrate Ladder), then you start by eating it in 5-net-carb amounts not more than three times per week. After you see how eating it three times per week affects you, you can try eating it every day.

Later in OWL, you don't have to eat from every rung every day. For example, I'm on OWL Rung 4, but I don't eat berries (OWL Rung 4) or nuts (OWL Rung 3) daily.

If you don't have DANDR 2002 (try to get this book, it's the last edition Dr. Atkins wrote), check the stickies on top of this forum. There it's explained how to follow OWL correctly.

:-( sigh! i was really looking forward to have some fruit! guess will have to wait..
i do have the book, but i did not realize it was that strict after induction...
so, now i am having an extra portion of veggies. so today i added some zucchini to my salad with some cherry tomatoes.
i also tried to add some cream (not heavy, 10% fat, here is called coffee cream, no sugar or carb in it) to my decaf, but it didnt work that well..i ended it up being swollen like a baloon! is that some sort of intolerance or am i still not allowed to use it?

for those living in german speaking countries, is Kandesin alright as a sweetner?

I'm in Germany, but I have no idea what Kandesin is. What sweetener is it? The ones allowed are sucralose, ace-K, cyclamate and saccharin. Some sugar alcohols are also allowed (e.g. xylitol). Stevia is allowed too.

Usually the stuff I find in Germany is a combination of cyclamate and saccharin... or cyclamate and aspartame... and sometimes it has fructose or lactose (milk sugar) added. Fructose and lactose are not allowed, and aspartame should be avoided whenever possible.

oops! i meant Kandisin. it is a combination of cyclamate and saccharin. it is made in Germany, by Teekanne. it is the most popular sweetener in Austria.. but not so important, anyway, thanks!
