  • SOY MILK??? Can I???

Hi, I am on the berry rung. I cannot have dairy products. I found unsweetened plain soy milk that is 1 gram of carbs per 8 oz. Is this an acceptable cream replacement? Do you know what rung it belongs to? I could make so many recipes and have so many more food choices if I could use this. I made my husband a strawberry smoothie with it this morning. It was only 4 grams of carbs, no dairy! .....it was sooooooooooooooo goooooooooooood! (I had a taste). I want to make one for me. I could also make the mock cereal with the pork rinds with it. Thank you!

OOOOHHHHH.....legumes! DUH! I just looked. I am skipping wine and moving to legumes. The only one I am going to try is the soy though. Can anyone tell me their experiences with soy milk? Thank you!

I'm okay with it. I don't use it everyday though (because I think it tastes putrid and I have to put it into something in order to kill the taste).

Test it out and see how it affects your weight loss.

Try to find the unsweetened soy milk too. Otherwise, you'll be counting one of thos soymilk servings as 1 of your 3 sweetener allotments.

Thank you...I'll test it! What I have is unsweetened, and yes, your right...alone it is putrid. I will make a smoothie using the soy milk, banana extract, 4 frozen strawberries, a packet of stevia and a few ice cubes.

In what other ways do you use it? Trish

I use soy coffee creamer every day in my coffee rather than cream, and I too use the unsweetened soy milk for my smoothies. I don't like it on it's own either..but i find it great for the smoothies.

I've never had any stalling issues with soy..I've been using it for about 5 months now.

Oh that is excellent! I made my smoothie. It was so good. A treat! So fresh and delicious tasting! I have the soy creamer too. I use it in DH's coffee. I drink tea. I may have a cup on occasion now that I found that creamer. It has a gram of carbs per Tablespoon. How many carbs is yours? I can't stand coffee w/out cream and sweetner. Hopefully, like you, I won't have a problem with it either. So far so good! Thanks, Trish

Mine has the same, 1g per tablespoon. I only usually drink one coffee a day in the morning (occaissionaly two but not too often)..so i just include it in my count..I find 1 tbspn more than enough.

I too bought some unsweetend milk today to try in some recipes.

May I go slightly off-topic cos I FINALLY found some soy beans to grind as flour (green things - but not the flour yet :sadblinky ) BUT I didn't buy it cos the carbs for 100 grams were 68 :yikes
That is the same as normal flour would be .. have I understood something wrong here ?? cos I know that soy flour should be really low in carbs.

I have been grinding almonds cos they are the only things I can find which are not high in carbs. I bought pumpkin seeds to grind to flour and THEN read in Fitday the values :yikes They will be chucked in the bin.

I also cannot yet find the flax flour .. found some linseed can I grind that ?

                Have a nice evening all

Hi, I can answer one of your questions. Linseed and flax are the same thing...Some people call it flax, some people call it linseed. Rest assured it is the same thing!!!! Horray! :joy Grind it and you have your ground flax or flax flour!!! I prefer the golden linseed (flax). Trish

Great I'll get that tomorrow ...

I've been looking at all the beans in Fitday : is it possible they are selling mung beans as soya here ?? (little green things with an eye) as that seems to fit the nutritional values exactly.

I will keep hunting or buy on line

                    Thanks

sadie147-I wish that 1 TBsp was enough......I had serious portion control problems with cream......the more coffee I drank the more I wanted. It takes an ounce of cream to make it taste good! I fear having problems....replacing cream with soy cream......and then overdoing it! Soooooo, I will have a cup on occassion only. I don't seem to have that problem with tea, and I drink it plain! Once in awhile though.....a hot steaming cup of Java is sooo goood!

Jennyxxx- Let us know how it works out for you! Good luck!
