    Hey

I had a question, I go to school and work full time, plus i'm a mommy to a little girl. It soooo hard for me to find time to make food with my crazy schedule and I promise I'm not looking for a way out of cooking because I do cook when I get the chance. Its only during the week that it is too time consuming and I'm NEVER home.

I wanted to know, I've found these frozen foods, an omelette with just egg and cheese and I believe with 2 grams of carbs. I thought about buying this and just warming it up and be on the go. I also bought these boca burgers (protein soy burgers) that only have 4 grams for one patty. I eat one with my salad for dinner.

I just wanted to ask if these are ok to consume regardless what OWL i'm on. I'm just worried that other ingredients in it may conflict with the weight loss. I checked for hidden sugars and I didn't come across any from what I recall. Please let me know if its ok and if not, any suggestions that I can make on a weekend that can last throughout the whole week without spoiling.

Sorry if this was long and thank you all for your comments and feedback!

    >> I've found these frozen foods, an omelette with just egg and cheese and I believe with 2 grams of carbs.>>

Are the list of ingredients Atkins friendly?

Why not make an egg casserole or two when you have the time ... and freeze chunks of it ... then you KNOW what's in it.

    >>I also bought these boca burgers (protein soy burgers)>>

Again ... read the list of ingredients. Soy isn't allowed until later in OWL. If you're going to buy a frozen burger, why not buy a frozen all-beef burger ... after all, it's Atkins friendly!

      Hey atkinsgal,
thanks for the response. I have tried making the casseroles and they've worked but I live with 5 people in the household and as much as I told them NOT to take my food, they always help themselves. I guess the fact that its homemade is too hard to resist, i don't know. As far as the boca burgers, I liked them because they're microwavable and thats what I need at my job.

I will look at those ingredients though and make sure...the only confusion I have are those words that only scientist know what they are, lol. Thanks for your input!

I have moved this thread to the OWL forum. I believe here is where it belongs.

Why do you want to eat ingredients you can't pronounce? There's many ingredients in the Boca burgers that are not appropriate until later in OWL ... and some that are simply not Atkins friendly.

Here's the ingredients to the original:

WATER, ENRICHED TEXTURED SOY PROTEIN CONCENTRATE PRODUCT (CONTAINS SOY PROTEIN CONCENTRATE, CARAMEL COLOR, FERROUS SULFATE [IRON], NIACINAMIDE, ZINC OXIDE, CALCIUM PANTOTHENATE, THIAMIN MONONITRATE [VITAMIN B1], PYRIDOXINE HYDROCHLORIDE [VITAMIN B6], RIBOFLAVIN [VITAMIN B2], FOLIC ACID, CYANOCOBALAMIN [VITAMIN B12]), WHEAT GLUTEN, SOY PROTEIN CONCENTRATE, CONTAINS LESS THAN 2% OF METHYLCELLULOSE, SALT, DRIED ONIONS, NATURAL AND ARTIFICIAL FLAVOR (NON-MEAT), YEAST EXTRACT, SESAME OIL, HYDROLYZED WHEAT PROTEIN, DISODIUM GUANYLATE, DISODIUM INOSINATE. CONTAINS: SOY, WHEAT, SESAME.

Caramel color is a buzz word for sugar.

As to the frozen egg casserole ... don't label it. <smile>

As to lunch ... take leftover dinner. Or make some chicken salad ... something you don't have to microwave.

There's lots of ways you can eat whole, unprocessed food.

Dear Netty...you are a young, busy mom and obviously very nice. Apparently your family has not yet learned what many other families already know: "If momma ain't happy, then NOBODY is happy."

Seriously, been there, done that with that hectic schedule years ago and they shouldn't be eating the food you've set aside for your meals on the go.

OK, now back to what you could eat. Frozen and prepared foods are really difficult as they have so many additives and chemicals and usually carbs/sugars of the kind you don't want.

Could you have a serious talk with your household members about not eating the foods you've set aside? As for portable foods, there are those individual cans of tuna, salmon or chicken to put on salad w/a full fat dressing, individual cups of Greek yogurt or cottage cheese which are great with some raw veggies (or berries when you move to that rung). Hard boiled eggs are always good. And of course, leftovers.

Seriously though, I would work on getting them to leave your meals that you've cooked ahead and frozen alone.

                  Re: Frozen Foods

I haven't tried them, but Lean Cuisine makes two frozen meals that are fairly low carb, like 7 or 8 carbs I think - they were in a "sale" display at the grocery store last week and I read some boxes just to check. Seems like it was chicken and veggies of some kind, can't remember. I think one of them was turkey and veggies. A lot of their stuff isn't low carb as it often has pasta with it, but these two didn't.

I sometimes take some lunchmeat slices of ham, pickle slices, a boiled egg or two and maybe a string cheese with me on the go for a meal. It ain't great, but it will keep me full until I get home again. None of those would look especially appetizing just by themselves in the fridge. At my old job, I kept cans of tuna there at work along with some mayo and pickle relish and just mixed it up on the spot and ate it with some celery I brought with me. Even if you can't store it at work, you could easily take just the few ingredients and make it there in a minute or two - surely your housemates won't steal your can of tuna and a little baggie with some pickle relish and mayo, LOL! By the way, you can get sweet pickle relish made with splenda if you like it that way. I forget which brand it is, but I've had it and it's pretty good.

Also, maybe cook up some extra burgers or whatever on the weekend and immediately freeze it. Then you could grab it in the mornings and take it with you to work or where ever. With most folks, having something frozen hard as a brick is MUCH less appealing to steal from someone else than something sitting on the fridge shelf, LOL! Also maybe if you put whatever you fix into a plastic container that you can't see into, AND maybe froze it, it would not be nearly as interesting to those other folks in the house. Or just make your food and then make them a huge pot of chili or spaghetti and dump in a ton of extra hot spices so they all get indigestion from eating it and learn to shy away from your "cooking," LOL!

Or label it something unappetising sounding - 'chicken gizzards'?

Be very careful about the "tv dinners". ON the surface, they may look "friendly", but they typically contain grain starches, sugar, etc.

Low carb doesn't mean it's Atkins friendly. I bet if you read the list of ingredients (which you should do BEFORE you buy something!), you'll see that those are not a good use of 7 or 8 carbs.
