Any advice on taking the vitamins?

  • Any advice on taking the vitamins?

    Ok, I know this is going to sound kind of lame....but I need some suggestions on vitamins. I have trouble getting into the habit of taking them....

    Oh I buy them...I have all of the vitamin supplements that a girl could want/need...most of the ones recommended in DANDR....I fill up the pill box with them each week.....and then I FORGET to take them!!! I have other meds I take and I even have a hard time remembering these!

    The pill box was my first step in trying to figure out a system so I will actually take them.....but there are so darned many vitamins :yikes
    Sometimes when I try to take them all I start feeling like I am going to gag!

    Here is what I take daily vitamin-wise (or try to take)

    Multivitamin (2)
    Flax oil (2)
    Fish oil (1)
    Green food capsules (2)
    Coral Calcium (2)
    Glucosamine Chondroitin with MSM (2)
    Evening Primrose capsule (1)
    Chromium Picolinate (1)
    Selenium (1)
    Probiotic supplement (1)

    I think I may have missed one or two...but you get the idea....ALOT of pills!
    How do you get into the habit of taking all of these supplements!?

    You have one of those 7-day pill boxes? They're the best.

    As for remembering to take them, I suggest that you put the box in a place that you frequent at a certain time of day. For example, in the morning you might want to put your pill box and a glass of water next to your alarm clock. That way when you wake up, you'll be reminded to take those vitamins at that moment. Or put them near your toothbrush or your hairbrush so you will always be reminded to take them.

    You can also leave a reminder note for yourself on the bathroom mirror or refrigerator door.

    With the number of vitamins you are taking, I suggest that you split the dosages up. So one half you take in the morning, the remainder in the evening or afternoon when you come home from work. That's what I do. I take a multivitamin, Vitamin C, Omega-3, Vitamin E, Vitamin B complex, and folic acid. I take 3 of them in the morning and the remaining 3 in the evening when I come home. I have two pill boxes: one is white (morning vitamins) and the other is blue (evening vitamins). I keep them on my nightstand with the telephone and answering machine. I also have a carafe of water next to them. I see them when I wake up in the morning, so it reminds me to take them---at that time. When I come home in the evening, I check my messages and take the evening vitamins.

      Yikes..no wonder you forget to take them...thats alot of pills. I take one multi, a green tea supp and a calcium w/ D once a day and thats it. I have enough trouble remembering those too. I keep the bottles right here in front of me at the computer, as I eat breakfast here reading my boards. When I'm done with breakfast, (on most days) take them and that's it til the next day.

      Yes, as Not2late says..put them where you're at ALOT, so you will see them and hopefully remember to take them.

        Those are great ideas...I think I will go take some now since I am thinking of it.....I have to take my other med too so taking half of what I have to take for today will probably go down easier than taking them all at once...

          I have a pill box that each day has an AM side and a PM side. I split up my vitamins, as Not2Late said. I put them in my lunch bag and take them to work with me. After I unload my stuff, I take my morning vitamins. After lunch, I take my afternoon vitamins.

          For my hubby, I put his in small plastic bags and labelled them AM and PM respectively. Hopefully he takes them!

          Whatever you have to do to keep them in front of your face, do it. I can't take mine too early in the morning because, like you, they gag me! :yikes

            I take about 12 a day too, and split them up. Half in the morning, half at night. I just use a little tupperware kinda container and bring the morning one's to work with me. I actually have all my vitamin bottles on this wooden tray thing that's divided, so it's easy to just grab the am ones and the pm ones.

              Ok...I just remembered to take the other half of my vitamins...at practically 11pm! Oh well.....at least I took them today lol!
