  • it's the berries

I've never been a huge fan of berrries, always opting for sugary desserts rather than eww yucky FRUIT lol Nutrition wasn't my forté.

Ok so tonight I whipped together some plain yogurt, cream, strawberries, vanilla, liquid sweetener, and ice cubes... NUMMY!

Now when I looked online for "low-carb smoothie" recipes they seemed to call for protein powder or tofu (gag!). Hmmmm

What are your favorite ways to eat berries? What's your favorite smoothie recipe?

Frozen strawberries (about 2oz = 5 carbs), yogurt (the stuff I am able to get here is about 100gr = 5 carbs) and 1 pkt splenda. Blend it all in my Magic Bullet & enjoy.

I havent tried it but i read it somewhere....mixing low cal jelly crystals to cream and cream cheese and whipping it....I think you could use berries instead mmmmm even layer it with different colored berries inbetween.....*salivating* like a parfait!!!!!! not sure how to spell that....

          Re: it's the berries

I like fresh strawberries sliced up over a little cottage cheese, personally. I slice them quite thin so I get a slice or two with every bite - amazing how far you can make 3 or 4 strawberries stretch this way, LOL!

Blueberries are a favorite too - though I find the taste of fresh ones too unreliable... sometimes they are heavenly, other times (way too often) they have gotten past ripe, sour, etc. I normally go for the frozen - picked at the right time and frozen immediately.

I'm sure berries with yogurt is great too - I have avoided it thus far because my mainstay breakfast for a long time was berries or other fruit, chopped walnuts or almonds, yogurt, and dry plain whole oats, uncooked (mixed up the night before - yogurt softens the oats). I love it, and don't want to torment myself at present knowing I can't have the oats for some time... though at least it only takes about 1/4 cup, so I will be able to have this again at some point. I look forward to that. It always was a very filling breakfast and felt fresh and healthy - and to me, was somewhat like a dessert! I might try it without the oats sometime, but don't think it would turn out the same.

That sounds really nice! I had trouble with the berry rung...I tended to have the berries or smothie as a "treat" or "desert" on top of the food I would normally eat in a given day. Finding a way to incorporate them into a meal works better for me - I don't usually snack, and don't need extra carbs/calories on top of my usual meals. Strawberries are really nice on a spinach salad, or a smoothie for breakfast is good too
