  • Loss of appetite

Have any of you had the problem with just totally loosing your appetite after being on Atkins for awhile? One or two days wouldn't worry me any but mostly I just don't want to eat anymore. This morning I had an Atkins breakfast bar (yes I know that's not the best thing but I messed my shoulder up and didn't feel like cooking breakfast.). This has been going on for over a week now, I'll eat a little bit in the morning, maybe a salad for lunch then a small dinner of like chicken breast and green beans. I have to make myself eat, never thought I would hear myself saying those words!

Anyway, has everyone gone through this phase, does it pass? Thanks!

    Re: Loss of appetite

Don't you just love the appetite-suppressant effect that being in ketosis can bring as one of the many benefits of Atkins

Normally our body's needs fluctuate depending on what we are doing and so some days we are not hungry and others we could eat everything in the kitchen - including the kitchen sink!!

Unless you find yourself eating too little as the weeks progress I would not worry too much about it.

Normally after getting partway up the OWL ladder most people find their appetite does come back somewhat, though not as much as it did pre-Atkins.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

Yes, it has happened, and is happening right now

What I have been doing is making myself an eggnog shake in the morning which helps to kick start me. I can usually drink easier than eat. (3-4 eggs, a glug of cream, 1 tsp vanilla, 1 splenda.... blend and drink)

Then frequent snacking instead of a meal.

      Good luck!

        Yes Earl,

This happens to me as well. Not every day, but especially on a day I am very busy, Being busy distracts me from even thinking about eating. Before Atkins, I would be hungry almost all the time...Those days I have seriously had to look for more things to eat by the end of the day, because I was really low in calories. I don't count calories, but eyeball them to stay in a reasonable range. (Fitday)

That's what worries me. I am afraid of going under 1200 (I believe that's the start of where you are actually starving yourself). I'm siked about the pizza made of the Queso Fresco tonight should have no problems!

KntryLady, exactly what measurement is a "glug"?

Must be like a West Virginia "tad"!

I think a "tad" is the same as a "dash",

which may be less than a "glug",

which (a glug) is more than a sip!

In Chicago we don't have words for measurements such as above...we just say "Gimme soma dat stuff ova-dere."

                  Earl,

My advice is to eat closer to 10-12 times your current body weight.

                    Re: Loss of appetite

My advice would be to slowly try to get up the rungs in OWL. Adding some more carbs can wake up the appetite. Try to eat things you like, maybe try new things too. I got really worried when this happened to me. I went off Atkins and my eat the house appetite came right back. I played around and found out how many carbs I could have before I ended up feeling like I wanted to eat everything in the house. The only cure for it for me seemed to be going up the rungs and adding some more carbs, but never so many I was tempted to overeat. I do keep my carbs low and switch the foods around to get in some stuff on the higher rungs occasionally. Variety helps too.

My starting weight was 235 lbs and I'm trying to get to 130 lbs.

                    1st mini goal: 145! met 12/09
                    2nd mini goal: 140!
                    3rd mini goal:135!
                    4th mini goal: 130!

I drink coffee. I drink when I am thirsty. I am just a low carber. Not on Atkins at all!!! He has everything to do with my weightloss and nothing to do with it, depending on who you ask.

i had the same problem of not being hungry but i wanted to be a body builder so i keept forceing myself to eat food so i could get more muscle

well it worked it took along time but now my stomach is larger and hungrier maybe cause i have alot of muscle up keep now im not sure but i dont have to force myself to eat anymore

so try working out lots. all the muscles on your body

carbs like fruit rung 7 would double my appetite so you can try that too but i dont know how healthy that route is

also before atkins i was hungry 24/7 xD

Body builder, lol, that one wouldn't work for me, I've had so many surgeries on my stomach I would never be able to tighten those muscles much!

Really I never did eat much, it was just what I ate and spending the last 2 years over medicated and not moving much the fat just piled on.
