  • Confession time... got off track

Hi everyone! I'm new here and I've been banging my head against a wall lately wondering what to do... here's hoping there's some good advice out there!

Confession time: I've been on Atkins for almost a year and was doing great. Until.... I got complacent. I didn't cheat with bread or sugar, but about 2 months ago when weddings, birthdays and now the holidays rolled around back to back, I sure started indulging too much. An extra glass of wine here, a few too many nuts there all of a sudden snowballed into WAY too much!! Now I've gained back some of the weight and inches I worked hard to lose and I'm done beating myself up and ready to move on to fixing it.

So, the question is, where to start? Back at induction? Pick up on the rung I left off on? Does anyone have any experience with this??!??

Can't wait to hear your ideas!
    Thanks,
    Bethany

How much weight did you regain?

Two weeks of Induction might do you good ... it would get your head in the right place and help you curb those cravings.

    What rung were you on?

I agree...I would start with induction. Good way to get back on track and ease your way into OWL.

If it's been 2 months, I too would recommend induction.

If you notice you over-induldge on certain foods, you could avoid or eliminate them. I just learned I have a big problem with peanut butter, so I am staying far away from that PB jar lol.

Good luck, and good job getting back on track.

When I was a newbie here, the Mods used to advise this:

If you are still in ketosis, pick up your OWL where you left off.

If you are out of ketosis, go back to Induction long enough to get back into ketosis, then pick up your OWL where you left off.

Dr. Atkins advised against running back to Induction for every minor infraction (See the section in the book, "Uses and Abuses of Induction", for his explanations.)

Also, you might want to review the events and see what exactly made you fall off. That way you'll be able to devise strategies to stay on the next time these triggers occur.

Re: Confession time... got off track

Thanks so much everyone! I really needed to hear some good advice. This is actually my third shot at Atkins over the years and the only time it really stuck. I'm bummed that I messed up but soooo ready to get back to a healthier eating style! I didn't want to just run back to induction because I was scared that after my previous failed attempts I would be abusing the system - but I guess in this case it's warranted. Definitely no action on the ol' ketosticks!

You are all so right about using this to recognize my trigger foods. I can list about 3 or 4 just off the top of my head. More than that, though, I can list trigger events. It started with a best friend's wedding - everyone else was indulging in decadent treats and great food so I thought, "Just this once, why shouldn't I enjoy myself too?" I lied to myself by thinking that having an extra one (or two!) glasses of wine, or an extra helping of cheese wasn't really cheating. After all, it's not like I was having the fancy mixed drinks and gourmet cake that everyone else was enjoying! BIG mistake. Those little overindulgences suddenly started adding up to every day occurances. I know I'm ultimately doing this for my health (my bloodwork results were amazing!) but does anyone else ever get a little frustrated that people around you can indulge every so often and you have to be always on guard and somewhat limited? Sigh...

Anyway, someone here asked how much weight I regained. I'm not sure about pounds as I measured more by inches, but put it this way - a year ago I started Atkins at a size 13, by the summer I was a size 9 and now I'm back up to a size 11. Ugh.

              Thanks again everyone!
