  • Can going off program cause diarrhea and vomiting?

I have yet to introduce myself but I have been lurking for about a month now. I will post an introduction today.

I started to do Atkins about three weeks ago and my husband wanted to follow along too. He only has 5 - 10 pounds to lose but he wanted to be "support" for me. He lost 5 pounds in two weeks but never did do a clean induction. He had a piece of cake and a couple glasses of red wine during the time. I never expected him to follow through completely anyhow so it really isn't a big deal. He really has cut out all the unhealthy forms of carbs, so that is good.

My question is...he had a work luncheon at work yesterday. He ate things that he hasn't eaten in almost three weeks, potatoes, cream puffs and coffee cake. Lord knows what else. Then came home and ate a good dinner. We went out last night shopping and stopped at an American Legion to see my friend that works there. I do this often and do not drink so it is not a big deal. Well he had 3 drinks of diet & Jack that had double shots in them in less than two hours and was drunk. He came home was snacky ate cheese and pepperoni. Around 2 woke up :tmi: sorry, sick on both ends. He is trying to convince me it is food poisoning from his luncheon, I think that his body is saying WTF have you done to me?

So do you think that it is possible that his "binging" yesterday helped create this problem or do you think that he could really have food poisoning?

    Thank you

My vote would be either food poisoning or some kind of flue bug. He needs plenty of fluids.
The worst that happens to me when I eat off plan is a bit of a sugar buzz at the beginning, (oh and yes the water weight comes back and some other unwanted pounds)

Yes! It can cause the "back door trots" among other problems when you start loading yourself down with carbs. I have personally had this happen a couple of times. Now granted I'm missing a gallbladder and part of my colon so maybe that's why it affects me that way, but it can happen.

I had similar symtoms that came with no warning a couple hours after I ate lunch, so I thought for sure that it was food poisoning, but then my wife got the same thing a few days later. I think it's some kind of bug going around.

This came on about 12 hours after eating lunch and a few hours after drinking pretty heavily in a short time. I do know that there is a stomach bug going around as quite a few of my family members have had it. The timing is just funny and suspect. Honestly I don't care if it is a hangover and part of me really wants it to be part of his binge from eating and drinking as a lesson to not do that again.

            Yes, it can.

That doesn't mean that's what's wrong with your husband though.

It could be either. I have gotten diarehea, I also get terrible bloat, I can sleep and ahve terrible nightmares, insatiable thirst and it triggers headaches as well for me.
