  • Sunflower Seeds

I was just wondering if anyone knows if those ranch flavored sunflower seeds by Davids are an acceptable food. You know those ones that have the shells on. I am finally onto the nuts and seeds. I have been curious if those are something I can have. I just love those. Have a healthy and happy New Year!!!!!

    Hi BrowneyedMelly

    Have you discovered the 'thread'
    http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...ram-foods.html?
It's in the forums under Ongoing Weight Loss (OWL).
Sunflower seeds are listed, so then I went to David Seeds Product Line and compared the regular seeds to the Ranch. Ranch has 1 extra carb per 1.75 oz. Since the list is for 1 oz, you'd have to go from there.

You're brave though.... if it's something you really LOVE I'd be worrying about a binge, but that's me

      Re: Sunflower Seeds

I think the flavored ones have corn syrup in them and transfats so they would not be great. Normal sunflower seeds would be good.

        Re: Sunflower Seeds

Rather than consuming the chemicals in the David's Ranch seeds (hydrogenated soybean oil, i.e., trans fat) as well as the corn syrup solids & dextrose, i.e., sugars, a better bet would be to make your own flavored seeds. Atkins is also about getting back to real foods.

Most of the recipes for flavored/spiced nuts can be used with seeds. Delicious and with real ingredients. Also the carb count and sugars would be less. Flavored nuts/seeds keep well in the fridge. HTH

          Re: Sunflower Seeds

I moved this thread out of the Snacks-Recipes forum because it's not a recipe.

Read the ingredients to the sunflower seeds. I can't recall, but one brand coats the seeds with flour or cornstarch so that the salt sticks to them better.
