  • Diet Rite soda

    Thanks

    Re: Diet Rite soda

I have it on occasion, but make sure to keep to your 3 servings of sweetener daily. If you find it stalls you, try cutting it out and see what happens. And if you find you have problems with portion control with it, definitely cut it out.

EDIT: Oh, and it does NOT count towards your daily water intake, fyi!

Diet soda is a "your mileage may vary" type of thing in terms of weight loss or weight gain.

As Pag wrote, each serving of that soda is counted as 1 of your 3 daily sweetener allotments. The sweetener allowance does not change from Induction to Maintenance. Elleth (a former moderator) and I went through the book and could not find any evidence that the 3 servings was only valid for Induction phase. In fact, in another book of his, Dr. Atkins wrote that the use of sugar substitutes was only to wean you off the added sugar-sweeteness of foods.

Additionally, diet sodas don't count towards your 64 fluid ounces of water daily minimum.

        Thanks for the info.

I was thinking maybe 1 once or twice a week just for a treat. So it has been known to cause stalls?

Yeah, definitely, in some people. It could really go either way. The only way to really tell, now that you're going through OWL, would be to see how you do with it for a couple weeks or so, and then see how you do without it. To be honest with you, if you keep your amounts in moderation, and still lose, you should be ok. But just watch out for stalls OR cravings, because either can be detrimental to weightloss. A lot of people get cravings for bad foods soon after having artificial sweeteners.

When you do drink those sodas just remember that a 'serving' of a drink is generally counted as being 8 fluid ounces, so a 12 ounce can would equal 1.5 servings of your daily maximum of 3.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
