  • Tomato Tragedy!

Two weeks ago I entered OWL rung 1. I lost 7 pounds in my first week. In my second week, I lost nothing. The only difference is that I added 3 small plum tomatoes everyday last week as a snack. To me it was a huge treat everyday. It stopped my weight loss cold! Anyone else experience similar problems with a "Legal" item that threw them off? The carb count is not that high on Fitday....

I'm sure you know that you won't lose every week.

I'm sure you know that many people don't lose when they first move to OWL.

While it's possible that the grape tomatoes are the "culprit", I wouldn't be so quick or harsh to judge based on one weigh in.

I have had certain foods affect me, too.

There are a million reasons for your weight loss to hesitate. Note I didn't stay stall, a stall is four weeks of no weight or INCHES lost. But one thing I learned early on is that my meal sizes needed to shrink. As you lose weight your energy requirements shrink as well. So a meal size from a month ago is no longer appropriate for now. It took me a while to figure that out, but that helped me.

        Re: Tomato Tragedy!

Atkinsgal08 I understand that weight loss will vary week to week. That's not a problem. What I really am aiming for in my question is how people tend to diagnose which foods are problem foods for them personally.

        In other words.....

If I remove tomatoes from my diet this week and I notice another weight loss, should I attribute that to the tomatoes or to the fact that my body may have "taken a week off" after such a great week. It is not a matter of frustration over not losing weight this week that I posed this question, but an attempt to get help with finding my "No-eat" foods.

Jim, what foods did you find that gave you problems?

Nightshade family - can be tricky for some. I would cut out the tomatoes and see if that make any difference.

My diagnosis has been how a food make me feel. I can feel when I eat something that is high glycemic - I get a sugar buzz from them (that can be an item like cateloup, black berries) and some foods I have control issues with like nuts.

            Re: Tomato Tragedy!

I'm confused cause last week you posted about eating off plan

are you sure that souffle didn't have an effect on the scale numbers?

But to answer your question to determine if it was tomatoes or not you will need to do a controlled variable experiment.

you could remove one tomato from your serving and see if you shed inches or pounds this week ( BTW you did check to confirm no inches this week neither right?)

or you could remove the tomotos and see if you shed any weight and then add one tomato next week and see if it stops again.

several repeated stops with only tomatoes as the change would be a good indication that they are the issue.

              Re: Tomato Tragedy!

There was another post just this week from someone who had moved to the nut rung and ate peanuts and quit losing. While we are never sure what food affects us until we do a controlled experiment, and then it still may not be the cause, OWL is for that purpose, to find and identify those problem foods.

Hope it isn't the tomatoes, that would really suck.

I wouldn't be so sure that only one attempt at elimination of the food would be enough to tell.

Chances are your cheat caught up with you. Just eat clean next week and I bet you see a drop. Sometimes you don't see the effects of your cheats on the scale for several days. But they usually get you.

Every national brand of ricotta cheese halted my weight loss. Luckily I found 1 local store brand and 1 artisanly produced ricotta that doesn't.
