  • Moved to OWL and lost 2 pounds already

Yay! I moved over to OWL on Sunday. I just did my weigh in and have lost another 2lbs since I weighed on Sunday. I was a little worried adding more food but it seems to be working for me. I have lost 12 pounds in almost 3 weeks.

I am thinking maybe I should move up the ladder on Sunday after a week on OWL rung 1. I know alot of people would be happy to lose 12 pounds in 3 weeks and trust me I am but I am thinking maybe I should move up and slow it down just a tad. What do you think? I don't want to lose it too fast and it come back to bite me in the rear.

    Great news!!

I would move on up the OWL ladder now and see how many net carbs you can eat while still losing

Re: Moved to OWL and lost 2 pounds already

Being someone who had/has an eating disorder, the whole eating thing is really new to me. I have had to be a little more structured with this as I am one who "forgets" to eat or is afraid to eat too much.

I am really excited to move up the rungs as there are a few things I would like to add back.

My nutritionist and I worked out a eating schedule for me and I plan it out a couple days in advance. I know exactly what I am going to have to eat and when I am going to eat it. I even have my alarm on my phone set to remind me that I need to eat something. I know it sounds like a pain but it is what I have to do not to dip into old habits of trying to starve myself. I go back to see her next Friday. We have a deal I will get to a BMI of 22. That is my healthy weight. If I hit it before my 120 goal then I stop and learn how to eat to maintain it. At the rate I am going it looks like I may hit 22 at 130 lbs so I may only need to go down 7 more pounds. That is why I am looking to move up the rungs a tad quicker than planned. We had thought that since I had a smaller amout to lose it would take me longer but I seem to be dropping a bit quicker than planned. So I may try to do a rung a week and get to pre maint and then maint. We will have to see as it goes because for all I know I could taper off all the sudden and need to readjust my plan. We will just have too see.

I appreciate all of the support here.

Thank You! I have to retrain my brain, thats my new motto. I am learning not to go from one extreme to the other. A couple of years ago I weighed 92lbs (not good) went through the counseling and whatnot and decided to "get well" ended up going the other way and gained a large amount (for me) of weight pretty quickly. I didn't do it right. Now I am learning to do it the right way.

My brain and I have daily battles. My old mindset is the less you eat the more you lose, the faster you lose. I have an addiction to losing weight. I know I do. My new mindset is to be healthy. I need to eat to be healthy. I need to learn to eat the "right" foods to be healthy and not jump from one extreme to the other. I have already caused myself harm doing it the old way. I need to get to my healthy weight and learn to A)be happy with that. B) stay there and not go one way or the other. That is going to be the tough one. For someone like me losing weight gives me an emotional high. I know that sounds silly but I get giddy everytime I lose weight. I need to teach my brain that this is not the right way to be.

Some people say you shouldn't be losing weight because of my old habits. My doctors and nutrionist disagree. In order for me to learn to get well. I have to learn balance. I need to learn when to stop. I need to learn not to go one way or the other. I need to learn how to lose to get to a healthy weight for me. I need to learn how to gain correctly if I ever do go to low and I have to learn how to maintain when I get to where I am supposed to be. And with that is retraining my mind. I have to learn to control.

Re: Moved to OWL and lost 2 pounds already

It's a good idea to move through the OWL rungs. Also do not skip Pre-Maintenance phase. Pre-Maintenance is really important (believe me when I say this!) because it will teach you how to maintain your normal sized body. And Dr. Atkins recommended you do Pre-Maintenance over a period of months----that's how slow he wants you to lose weight. The idea is the slower you go, the more you will learn the ins and outs of maintaining your weight.

So review the Pre-Maintenance Phase with your nutritionist and work out a plan.

good for you geting control of your eatting issues.

Moving up should not be an issue and remeber that it is natural to have a scale weight loss hesitation on ANY weight loss plan after your initial large scale weight loss so make friends with your tapemeasure so you can see the inches of body fat being burned off working your atkins even when the scale doesn't validate your efforts.

What are you doing as the mandatory exercise part of your atkins?

Re: Moved to OWL and lost 2 pounds already

I do 45 mins of cardio at the gym 3-4xs a week. Weight training for 30mins 3xs a week. I have a trainer helping me with this. I also have a wii fit that I try to do 30mins to 1 hour a day if I have time.

My biggest exercise is I love to dance around the house while I do housework. I think I get more of a workout and stress relief just doing that than going to the gym. I have so much fun when I am alone and can just act like a mad woman and dance and sing my heart out. Good thing the neighbors aren't close by

good for you. alll that exercise should help make your CCLL even higher so don't be concnered if you keep dropping weight even eating more carbs.

Does your nutrtionist know about all your workouts? if not please be sure to tell her at the next meeting as you don't want to be defieicne in any vit or mineral as you morph your body to that smaller healtheir one you want.

Yes she knows I am on strict monitoring. I just had heart surgery 6 or so months ago. So I am followed by a cardiologist and electrophysologist as well.

As I wrote in my introduction I did things to my body that I am paying for now. I have had to learn the hard way from my mistakes. I hope other people reading this will also learn something from my mistakes. I am now trying really really hard to do things the right way. I will admit it is not easy and I battle myself daily but the best I can do right now is try and listen to people who know better than me.

Oh and as for measuring myself. I have not measured with a tape. I am trying really hard not to become obsessed with the whole process. I keep track of my weight so I can make sure I am not losing to fast and at a healty rate because of my tendancy to try and rush things. But 3 weeks ago I was wearing a very tight size 10 jeans, so tight I should probably have went up one more size but I didn't want to admit I needed them. I am now able to pull those 10s off without unbuttoning and unzipping them. They are getting pretty baggy. My shirts are also flappy. I lost my boobs though. I was kinda sad to see them go and I know what's left of them will be gone soon darn. In a few days I will try on some of my older jeans. I have some size 6 in my closet. I don't feel ready to try them on yet but soon I will.

hey using clothes as the measuring device is good too. Glad you are following the docs advice and getting healthy this time around shedding excess body fat.

One question thogu since you are not getting taller how will your BMI number be acheived at a higher weight since BMI is height and weight based?

I had set a goal of 120lbs for myself. My nutrionist set a goal for me of a BMI of 22. I am at a BMI right now of 22.8 I need to do .8 with only .8 to go, my goal of 120lbs would put me at a lower BMI than 22. So from the looks of things I only need to lose around 6-7 more pounds to put me at 22 even. Which would mean my goal weight would be higher than I had originally thought.
