  • Rough week, you ladies will understand

I have not been in on in a week, very busy.

Got my book, not anymore enlightened, still have a billion questions. Stopped asking on this board though, for now.

So happy I got to 140.40 last week! Was hoping to make it to below 140 by today:

Went out of town last weekend. Ate low carb, out at restaurants. Although I found out yesterday mussels have more carbs than I thought and so does a cream sauce (who knew a tomato sauce would have less).

Anyway, in ketosis the whole weekend per the sticks, feeling thirsty, etc.

Get home Monday afternoon, scale says 147.80. Hmmm, I gained over 7 lbs in 3 days? Doubt it, BAD water retention. Since I got back Monday I have been back watching everything, preparing my own food, and drinking a ton of water to ensure I don't retain water.

Praying I would see below 140 today. Nope, I woke up at 3 am with burning stomach, go to the bathroom. My time of the month. How ironic I have a whole week trying to get back to 140.40 and then to be even more delayed with my period. My weight this morning was 141.60, so 1.2 more than this time last week. Jeez, what happened to getting what you really want?

I know my true weight is being masked right now, I am mad and laughing at the same time. I am going to be weighing myself twice a day now to ensure I get enough water in me. If I go one hour without water my urine is bright yellow again!

Atleast my work clothes are looser and starting to look sloppy because there is so much extra fabric but that dang scale won't budge. I like to see the numbers drop!

    Thanks for letting me vent.

    Best wishes,

    Jaxmama

I'm sorry to hear you do not want to ask questions on this board. We have many knowledgeable people here with plenty of personal and support board experience.

    I hope you will reconsider.

Yes, mussels do have carbs. So do clams and oysters. There is a seafood footnote in the Induction Acceptable Foods list to the effect these foods have carbs.

Cream sauce and cheese sauce are misleading because they typically have a flour-butter-milk base. So they aren't legal for Induction and the non-grain rung of OWL. On the brighter side, when you reach Rung 9, you will be able to incorporate these sauces into your menu, provided flour does not adversely affect your weight loss/blood sugar.

I found it very useful to keep a copy of the Induction Acceptable Foods List with me whenever I eat at restaurants or go shopping. My copy (now in its 5th photocopy!) has notations on the net carbs of certain items. And yes....there are note all over it with OWL food net carbs. It's a great reference and it prevents me from guessing (eventhough it looks rather....unorganized.)

    that good.

After seeing how I retain anywhere from 3-5 pounds of water during my TOM, I make it a point NEVER to weigh or measure during that time. It's aggravating, but it's a temporary aggravation. The worst thing to do is to become discouraged during this time and blow your Atkins.

AND I found that a sudden change in exercise causes water retention in me. We had about 30 inches of snow blanket the area. Thanks to that blizzard, I spent a few hours every day shovelling that stuff. Well, on shovelling Day 2, I noticed that my bracelets and rings felt tighter. Ditto on shovelling Day 3, Day 4, and Day 5. I stepped on the scale and WHOA!!!!!!!!! I was up 4 pounds. I'm still retaining some of that water. But I don't let it get to me. Water is water. Fat is fat. We are in this to lose fat.

I do understand. I am right there right now. The bloating is visible (now that I am thinner). Oh well. I stay off the scale.
Thanks for letting us know how you are doing. I have been thinking of you and sending good thoughts your way.

Re: Rough week, you ladies will understand

not 2 late...good idea on the acceptable food list copying I need to do that asap.

I am on RUNG 1 still so I have been up'g my veggie count but I think I am over doing the veggies too. not on purpose but fitday gave some good insight into my percentages. Mine were in the 50% range for fat and below 10% carbs. I am revamping my menu for the rest of RUNG 1. I was going onto RUNG 2 when I got to 138 lbs.

I am trying to answer my own questions since I get frustrated with some of the answers on the board sometimes. But when I am very desperate or need to vent, like today, I will post.

I didn't even think about the flour in the sauce since I don't use it any of my own sauces. I must of had blinders on Saturday night.

I am hoping for a better week next week and starting to see some changes on the scale. But it's great to see my clothes becoming loose, it gives me great satisfaction.

I had to remind myself this week since it's a way of life, I have time to get where I want and I will be better off for it. I also read where a lot of people get temp stalled after starting RUNG 1. So I said to myself to keep going, it's a temp set back and it's not the end of the world and it's not something I can't reverse (in time).

        Best Wishes,

hey there good to see you are still working your atkins.

Just think how much you have lost since you got TOM fluid weight too.
Hope you are checking inches so you can see body fat being shed even without scale pounds disapearing.

Re: Rough week, you ladies will understand

JaxMama, I am so glad you posted this! I was feeling so discouraged last night. My TOM came this week too and my weight loss has halted and then some and even though I know its not fat weight its just frustrating nonetheless! I have seen a very good drop in body fat% and my measurements even though the scale weight hasn't budged much. I am however close to goal but not there yet (so I can get very impatient). However one of the other respondent's is right, if you have an increase in physical activity, you'll hold water in your sore muscles (even if they're not sore!). I normally run 15-20 miles a week and my training plan for my half marathon in May has me increasing mileage and training hard...usually I put on 3lbs or so of water after a tough workout and it takes almost 4 days for it to go down. That can be discouraging too. Luckily I know its not fat weight but it is still wreaking havoc on my mind!

Let's hang tight and wait it out, the water weight will be gone in no time. Keep up that water drinking though! I will do it too!
