  • Is my goal weight too low?

Hello...I started this WOE about a month ago (Jan 15th to be exact or 5 weeks ago today) and was wondering something...

I started out thinking I needed to do induction but then decided after a few days of that to move onto OWL because of how little I needed to lose. I started out weighing about 172lbs and since then have gotten to 165 (though right now a few lbs up due to TOM). I have kept my carbs between 25-30gms/day but an occasional day at 35gms depending on what food I was trying to add and see my tolerance for (like almonds, soy milk, etc.). The biggest difference I have noted is in my measurements - last time I measured (which might have been a couple of weeks ago now) I had already lost an inch on each of my measurements. I am 5ft10in tall and I run 25 miles per week and I try to use some weights a couple of times a week. My home body fat scale started me out around 25-26% body fat and has as of this last week showed me down to 21% fat. Should I adjust my goal weight closer to where I am now and move higher up the OWL ladder and on to phase 3? I am confused...I have never lost so much body fat so quickly before in my pre-atkins dieting days (even with lots of running)! I am very pleased with the results but wonder if my scale and body fat measurements could be off? Should my goal weight be more based on my clothing size and measurements at whatever weight that puts me? Should I be trying to up my carbs and find my ACE? I am not seeing much change on the scale the last couple of weeks but think that might be due to TOM and muscle gains. Are my expectations impossible? I grew up very thin (approx 17% body fat in high school) and athletic but perhaps my view of myself is skewed because of that? I don't think I am fat but I am not what I would consider "thin" either. Should I just keep going until I am size 10 like I want to be instead of striving for 155lbs? It's tough not to have a benchmark to start moving up faster if need be when my scale is playing tricks with my mind/perceptions.

use your percent body fat to guide you to a healthy for you stopping weight. Since you were heavy you will have denser bones and more muscle tissue just from holding you upright and moving the bigger body.

You will see your body morphing as you add lean muscle mass and shed body fat working your atkins both the exercise and eating parts. I overshot my healthy stopping point and was underweight at goal even though both the height weight charts and the BMI said I was overweight.

Thank you for your help! Yes, I should go by the percent of body fat. I think I still look big to myself because of the skin and because of my skewed body image. I still don't feel like the percentage is true. Hmmm...

At least I have a way of eating that will help me no matter what my body goals are...I am working my way up to more of a maintenance level and seeing what foods I can successfully introduce without problems or weight regain. So far so good!
