  • On to rung 2 for me tomorrow and I am nervous

Well tomorrow ends my first week on rung 1. I haven't officially did my weigh in for the week but the other day I was already down 2lbs.

I figure with the loss I have had this week it makes sense to move on to rung 2 since I am trying to get to pre maint.

The dairy rung- yummy. I am looking forward to this rung. This and the nut rung could get me in trouble infact I think I am going to skip the nut rung for now.

I see that I can have low carb high fat yogurt with no fruit and sour cream. I am a bit nervous I may overindulge here as these are some of my favorites. When I hit the berry rung and yogurt eek.

The next couple of rungs will be a challenge for me to learn portion control and also to not just eat those things and forget about the protein and veggies. May have to treat the yogurt as a treat and just have it once in awhile.

We will see wish me luck.

Aprile!! Good for you for not being afraid to move on!!

You're going to love the new foods and new freedom variety brings to your plate!! The only caution is portion control. Keep your rung climbing experimentation just as Dr. Atkins recommends and you'll know exactly how your body reacts to certain foods. Staying away from the portion control issues will also allow you to move through the rungs a bit faster too. You only have 17 lbs lose, so it's a great time to move on! Keep up the good work!!

Well I have learned something new already from moving to the dairy rung. I don't think cream and me get along.

I decided to try some decaf coffee as a treat to test out some extra dairy carbs from the heavy cream. I only put 2tbspns in my coffee and my tummy was in serious pain afterwards. I bloated up the whole works.

Next I tried some decaf without cream Yuck! but I got it down for my experiment. I thought maybe it was the coffee bothering me. Nope no tummy ache or bloating so I tried one more cup of coffee with a little cream. Poof my tummy blew up and hurt with in 30 mins. I guess I can't handle heavy cream.

I ate cheese on induction and it doesn't seem to bother me. Something about the liquid cream kills my tummy so I guess I either need to get some lactaid or cut it out completely. I would like to figure out something so that I can use it as so many dishes use a little cream here or there.

could be the lactose in the cream which isn't in the cheese. try some full fat unsweetened yogurt and see how that does with your tummy.

On the nuts/seeds rung remember Dr Atkins counted an ounce of nuts as 5 net grams of carbs so even though our carb counters will say it is lower that is what we need to go with. if you have issues try buying raw nuts and freeze them then you can eat just the one ounce fixed at a time. or you could buy nut flour as nobody goes wild eating flour

I used to know kids who ate paste in school .

I am thinking it maybe the lactose. I remember having a problem with Alfredo sauce before I started eating this way. I just never really thought about the cream part of it being what bothered me. I drank coffee before induction and I was eating so many other things I don't think I noticed if it bothered me or not.

Now that I am adding one thing at a time I am really amazed at how much my body reacts to different things. I am learning so much it really is interesting and makes me want to learn more.

This is exactly how I think Dr Atkins intended us to use the great 'tool' he invented (OWL phase)!!
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!
