  • Big Mistake Last Week

Last week I made a big mistake and don't want anyone else to do the same thing. I decided to move into owl and add some more vegies. So three days in a row I fixed myself some nice little snack bags with baby carrots for me to munch on during my drive home from work. I realized that they had a few more carbs than some other vegetables, but I had been having a hard time getting enough carbs into my diet. Well - I gained 2 pounds. My DANDR had been ordered but I hadn't recieved it yet. When I did get it and acutally read it - I discovered that carrots are way high on the glycemic index and should not be eaten until MUCH later. I feel as if I ruined the week, but at least I learned an important lesson. I hope no one else makes the same mistake.

glad you got your book and are now having more of your legal veggies.

weight loss can fluctuate so those few carrots didn't really ruin your week. and you now know you can eat them without additional food cravings too so when you getr to rung 8 you will be carrot ready.

I can't imagine carrots would make you gain 2lbs.
Eating a higher glycemic food item in moderation before that rung would cause a gain? I would assume it might cause cravings but not a gain.

The carrots are the only thing that can explain it. I snacked on about 3/4 cup of baby carrots for three days in a row. My carbs were just over 20 each day. It was the only thing I changed in my diet. About 2 days after I stopped eating them my weight dropped back down. Either way...I won't be eating them again for awhile.

They should be 25 net on OWL Rung 1.

I am trying. But honestly I am quite happy with what I am eating right now.

Well, at least you now know to watch out for carrots when you reach rung 8 and see if they do the same to your weightloss

As for your net carbs on Owl rung one, you should be aiming to add 5 net carbs to however many you were averaging on induction.

Which veggies are you adding now for your OWL extra veg?
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

Recently I discovered roasted brussels sprouts as an alternative way of cooking them, yummmeeeee!!

oooh! That does sound good. I'll have to try it. Broccoli is good tossed in olive oil and seasonings and baked for about 7 minutes.

I often save the thick stalks of broccolli as once peeled they make good substitutes for french fries (chips in UK)

That sounds yummy! I ended up adding more veggies with adding tomatoes and sprouts and a little extra spinach or cabbage to my lunch salad. However I am huge fan of cauliflower and broccoli as well as green beans...all taste great in olive oil, butter or a bit of cheese melted over. I love being able to eat my veggies now!
