  • Gained two pounds what gives?

    Hi,

    I have been in OWl for about two weeks now and have in the past week gained two pounds. The thing is my carb level is only around 25 grams per day, and as far as the strips go I'm in ketosis. I do work out, three day of strength training, and three days cardio. I have started taking creatine to help with muscle growth could that be the problem?

    simple answer? yes.

    creatine is used as a weight gainer.

      yep creatine is a super water holder molecule in those muscle building stuff. it can actually dehydrate you as it can suck fluids from ajoining tissues and holds it next to itself.

        Its actually used to build lean muscle not to gain weight per se, and there is no way that anyone can gain two pounds of muscle in a week.

        That's what happened, I just finished reading some more info on a body building site, and they also said the same thing

          it builds your lean tissue mass by holding fluids as they are counted as lean body tissue. And it make syour muscle tissues look bigger cause they are swollen with fluid.

          it doesn't make you any stronger though

            I have read that is does help to increase strength by increasing the ATP in your muscles there by giving you more energy to do a more strenuous work out. I also read that it helps in the synthesis of protein.

              check out the creatine content of your beef chicken and orther foods you are eating and see if you really need any more for protein synthesis.

              as to the ATP what it does is hold a phosphate molecule ready to give it up as your body makes ATP from your chosen fuel but if you understand body energy usage the ATP has 3 Ps one breaks off and energy is released but the phosphate doesn't vanish it is still right there in the cell ready to be rebonded making the ADP (2Ps) back into ATP ( 3P) in the cell's power plant known as the mitochondria. Glucose also fractures off a P when glucose6Phospate is reacted in the phosphgen energy system. and then the glucose breaks down carbon by carb on until it is a 2 carbon molecule so it along with the fractured fatty acids and ketones can provide the energy to change that ADP to ATP.
              if you are a world class athlete then you might need faster return of the P bonds that creatinine phosphate can give you or if you are a worldclass body builder you might need the extra bulk, but unless you are one it is just a fake look of bigger muscles from fluid retention and once you stop eating drinking or popping the creatine you lose the bulk. Build your muscles with exercise and your atkins eating and save your money.
