  • Another yogurt question

I know its been said in the past that natural yogurt is low in carbs but how should I count it in FITDAY?

My Fage 7 oz says 7 grams of carbs, 7 which are sugar. My Dannon Greek style yogurt is 6 grams of carbs for 5.4 oz of yogurt, of course 6 grams that are sugar.

Do I take as it says on the package or what?

    Thank you.

Follow the packaging and enter these brands as a custom food. So when you eat Fage, you use the Fage information, when you eat Dannon, you use the Dannon information.

Damn I was hoping there was less than what it says on the package. I should stop eating it almost everyday.

Yogurt is good stuff but I certainly eat smaller portions of it than I used to. OWL for me was all about learning the portion sizes of stuff. How much is actually 5 carbs of yogurt. I am hoping that will help me on maintenance.

How much are you eating per day?

If you eat it daily and still lose pounds/inches and not having any blood sugar symptoms, then there's no reason why you can't continue eating it everyday.

Thanks Atkinsgal. I read the article a couple times to ensure what I was reading.
I don't feel so bad now knowing there are other benefits to the yogurt I am consuming.

I am not a believer in the yogurt exception.

                  Re: Another yogurt question

I have been eating yogurt 5-6x week since RUNG 2, so for a few weeks now. I was just concerned about the carb amount all of a sudden and was hoping it was less than 7 grams.

I eat 7 oz, what the serving size is on the Fage container. Have I been overeating it?

                  Thanks

Are you eating more than 5 net carbs worth?

If as quoted earlier, 7 ounces of Fage has 7 grams of carbohydrate then 5 ounces would have 5 grams of carbs.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

                        Re: Another yogurt question

the yogurt exception was bad conclusions based on a badly done yogurt carb study by one doc. it has never been peer reviewed nor duplicated so please don't fall for that.

The doc doing the study Dr. Goldberg tested only for lactose and not for any other sugars in the yogurt. based on his testing he concluded that since the lactose amount in the yogurt didn't match the carb count the carb count was wrong because the yogurt had "eatten" all the missing carbs.

Here is where his science was lacking. the bacteria fracture the lactose into to simple sugars that will not react with the testing mechanism for lactose but will still be in the yogurt when a person eats it so count all your carbs in your porduct and enjoy the health benefits of including a cultured frsh dairy product as part of your atkins.

Thank you, I will count as is and keep it to 5. I was not going over on purpose, I just went by serving count.
