  • Sorry, another question about berries

I know we should focus on our veggies for several different reason. For those of us who are able to get to berries and can handle them (I am still deciding if they are good for me), wouldn't we focus on ingesting berries like we do veggies?
For the additional fiber? Or no because of the higher glycemic index?

    Thanks

Not sure if I understand your question. Berries/melons are different from veggies because of the higher sugars which is why they are limited. IMO they are beneficial because of the phytonutrients and polyphenols in them. Berries such as raspberries, blackberries, mulberries and to some extent, strawberries do have more fiber because of the seeds. Berries/melons are also high in antioxidants with blueberries coming in at the top.

Berries/melons also introduce sweets back into the Atkins diet. I know many do have artificial sweeteners but if one was doing a more whole food approach without them, this is where your sweets would come back into your diet.

Re: Sorry, another question about berries

You answered it, thanks. I know we focus on fiber (atleast I do) and right now I am only getting them from veggies and the focus has been eating veggies for nutrients and fiber since the start.

I was wondering why the berries wouldn't play a more crucial part into fiber intake. But for some of us I think it works out. But honestly, I think after tomorrow, I am done with them. I don't feel right which is unfortunate since I do enjoy eating them.

I may make them a treat every so often but don't think I can incorporate them every other day. But the true test will be Sunday when I weigh again, I have a feeling it's going to be a significant gain.

I don't feel right and I am not my usual self. I am just having a lack of satisfaction with my food, especially at night.

I am also over tired today which is not helping my mood.

Thanks for letting me vent...tomorrow is a new day.

My favorite desert is yogurt and frozen berries.

I'm having a hard time passing up the florida strawberries here in Georgia... i can't imagine what it's like to be there.. lol... (Ingles has them 2 packages for $4 this week)....

strawberries are lower in carbs than blueberries or blackberries... and last time around when I got to the berry rung... I'd have some frozen strawberries with heavy cream on them.. the cream would freeze and it was INCREDIBLE!

Cream on frozen blueberries is good, too!

I'm concerned about you not feeling "right".....check your menu carefully and make sure this off-feeling doesn't coincide with the addition of a new food. Just remember, blood sugar instability symptoms do not necessarily mean "cravings": they can manifest as cravings or non-stomach/food related symptoms like crankiness or fatigue.

That's odd - my fitday has 2.5 ounces of blackberries for 5 net carbs but 4 ounces of strawberries for 5 net carbs.
Maybe blackberries are lighter so you get more in number of them?
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

Am I doing something wrong? Fitday I plug in 3oz Blackberries, raw 3.7net carbs. 3oz Strawberries, raw 5.6 net carbs.
Or is it different for frozen? I eat them fresh.

Re: Sorry, another question about berries

My numbers for both was for 'raw'.

For 3 oz of each my fitday says
Strawberries, raw - 6 grams total carbs inc 2 grams fiber = 4 net carbs
Blackberries, raw - 11 grams total carbs inc 5 grams fiber = 6 net carbs

Gosh - I just looked at 4 ounces of frozen strawberries and it came to 25 net carbs!! After closing my dropped jaw I looked at the included ingredients and they have added sugar to them

Blackberries, raw - 8.2g total carbs with 4.5 grams fiber = 3.7 net carbs

I weight all my veggies & fruit out by oz or grams so I hope I'm doing it correctly.

Maybe if you look at the entries in the USDA website from which most of the other websites take their info it might be clearer?
