  • Quick question

I have recently been in hospital (chest pains) and screwed up my eating plan for two days. Plan on starting back OWL tomorrow however I was wondering if I need to go back to induction for two weeks

    No, you don't.

    You can continue on.

I hope the chest pains were nothing ... that's more important!

      Re: Quick question

How horrid for you Are you feeling better now? Did they diagnose what was wrong with you?

If hospital food where you are was as bad as my husband said it was here then I imagine you would probably not have eaten much of it anyway.

However if you feel you are out of ketosis then you could go back to induction levels of carbs/food choices till you are back in ketosis, then take up the OWL rung you were on previously
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

Tell them you're eating whole, unprocessed foods, no sugar, no refined carbohydrates, heart healthy fats, lots of vegetables, low glycemic fruits.

            Re: Quick question

Not all medical staff are against lowcarb/Atkins.

I discovered when I was having my bone marrow biopsy yesterday that although the nurse assistant on discovering I had lost 10 stone (140 pounds) on Atkins asked 'But don't you need carbs for energy?' that the doctor piped up with 'No your body turns to using fat for energy instead'

If I hadn't been lying on my side baring my buttock at the time you could have knocked me down with a feather!!!

              Re: Quick question

My understanding of the diet is you must go on Induction if you have gained 5lbs or more, THEN YOU MUST. Otherwise just continue on.

My heart doctor actually recommended Atkins as a choice for me. I see 2 different heart doctors a Cardiologist and an Electrophysiologist. As long as you do this WOE correctly you should have no troubles. I am told it is when people modify this plan to their own way is when there can be trouble.
                Mini Goals

                135- Met 2/25/10
                130- Met 3/21/10
                129- So I can say I am in the 120s- Met 3/29/10 128.7lbs yay
                125- 4/20/10 5 to go!

The poster might be looking at these 2 sections of the Maintenance Chapter in DANDR
Getting on the scale at least once a week is a must for successful weight maintenance. When you find that you've gone 5 pounds or more over your maintenance weight or that your clothes are getting tight, you must pull things back on their proper course. And you must do it without delay!
In my reading of this, Dr Atkins is saying that if you find you have gained a few (up to 5) pounds you need to check you have not allowed any carb creep or non-Atkins foods and are now eating above your CCLM or have slacked on your exercise (thus lowering your CCLM) and need to get back on track at once.
                    and
                    Protect Your Weight Losses
You have invested a lot of effort and psychic energy in the lessons you learned on your weight loss journey. Since you and I both know you have a tendency to put on the pounds, I want you to keep a sharp eye for any resumption of weight gain. Maybe Thanksgiving is coming up, or Christmas, or your birthday, or your spouse's birthday, or your vacation. By the time you celebrate any one of those with a bout of unrestrained indulgence, you may find that instead of being 5 pounds overweight you're 15 pounds overweight. Instead of waiting, act now!
Don't get depressed and give up. Even if you do temporarily get off track, continue to exercise and take your supplements. It's crucial that you don't surrender all control. Start with Induction and stay on OWL until you've reached your goal weight again, at which time you should ease back into Lifetime Maintenance. Exercising more vigorously after going overboard will also help get you back on the straight and narrow.
Here I think he is saying that if you have gained about 15 pounds then you should go back to induction and then move to OWL while losing those added pounds before returning to maintenance phase.

Thanks everyone for posting and can I just say thats me back! Got straight back on OWL today and feel better already. The past two days just wasn't worth it. The carbs made me feel lousy and actually didn't taste that good to ruin my first four weeks. Would rather have my roast beef and veg than a chip butty anyday. After my dinner tonight i felt happy and not full. After my dinner last night i was seriously crying out for more carbs and felt starving! Tut tut. JUST NOT WORTH IT!!!!!!!!!!!!
