  • Extending Rung 1 to Friday

I am going to extend rung 1 to Friday just because it will be easier to plan my meals if I can make some of them ahead on the weekend. So far so good with rung 1, only lost about 2 lbs so far on OWL, but my body has changed shape. This morning I was able to put on some jeans that I haven't beeen able to wear since I was in college. I have lost a good bit of inches. (I never measured myself because I coudn't fing a tape measure and didn't want to dig around for rope.) I can tell because my clothes are fitting me differently. My pants have gone from a 42 in waist down to a 38 inch waist, and my 2XL shirts that were getting tight are starting to become loose and baggy.

When I do move to rung 2, I'm debating whether I am going to add the 5 extra daily carbs as more cheeses or just more induction veggies. I am not a big dairy guy except for cheese.

My wife went shopping and bought me a big variety bag of nuts. I am happy she did, but I told her that I am not on that rung yet so she hid them from me. I am looking forward to that rung! I love macadamia nuts and almonds!

If you are adding more Induction vegetables, you'll still be on OWL Rung 1. The rungs are based on the foods you add, not on your carbohydrate level.

When you move to Rung 2, you don't necessarily need to add more cheese. You can simply eat less aged cheese (the ones that you've been eating during Induction and Rung 1) and add some fresh cheeses instead... like cottage, ricotta or mascarpone. Then you can increase your carbs with more vegetables (a good choice, btw), while also adding new foods.

Also, since you should only eat a new food not more than three times a week, you can have more veggies the other days.

Awesome, thanks for the reply. Does that mean I can still add 5 carbs of induction veggies and be on rung 1 taking in 30 carbs? That would be good for me! I am falling in love with the versatility of cauliflower and would love to be able to add more to my diet!

        Yep.

Or you can add 5 net carbs of vegetables and move to OWL Rung 2 by switching some aged cheese for fresh cheese.

Absolutely, Coach - we have had some members who stayed on rung one adding more and more portions of their induction veggies till they discovered their likely CCLL before moving on to any of the other rungs and swapping out some of their added carbs.

It made them more comfortable to only change one thing (the kind of carbs) instead of both (the quantitiy plus the kind of carbs)
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!
