  • Down another 2lbs!

    Down another two lbs this morning, so that makes 4 lbs since adding lettuce, cool. I think next week I will add another salad vegetable and see where that gets me.

    I guess I'm still in induction, though I am adding salad vegetables, I still have induction percentages and will still not be near the 20g most are at when they reach rung 1. Next week I will add cucumbers.

    It is actually fun adding in foods, I can't wait to start using recipes!

    In Induction you can eat any vegetable on the Acceptable Foods List. You don't add foods like you do in OWL... one at a time.

      glad to here your experiment with more carbs and more veggie food went well.

      be careful of those gastric effects of the cucumbers if you are going to be adding 5 net carb grams of them often cause that is a whole lot of cucumber

        Thanks for the warning about the cucumbers, I love them and want to add back in those foods I love the most first.

        Georgiana - I realize this, but I'm adding the salad veggies slowly just like we would add once we get to OWL, slow and steady, it is giving me an opportunity to get used to adding foods while staying safely on Induction.

              unless you are following the 1992 DANDR and counting total carbs once you add more veggies then the 3 cups of 2002 DANDR induction you are doing OWL regardless of how low your net carbs are.

              so are you removing the lettuce and adding cucumbers now or are you eating your 3 cups plus 5 more net carbs of yummy induction veggies? if so then you are in OWl and you can go as slowly as you want to and even take 54 weeks to test all the possible veggies on that list one at a time.

                  No, I never indicated that I do not think OWL is save...I'm not sure how you came to that conclusion...oh, I see...what I mean is that Dr. Atkins stated that almost everybody will lose while in induction, I am safe in terms of losing...lol.

                      Oh no, I'm not removing the lettuce, I'm simply adding more veggies...I'm all over the place with the different versions of the plan, when I did this 10 years ago I did '72 (total carbs) I've now read three more of his books, really attempting to learn this plan and I think I've adopted some pieces of each version. I have a hard time even thinking about net carbs, I want to count total carbs (much easier and a little more restrictive).

                      I've been pretty bad about the veggies the last few days, really keeping my carbs around what I started with, when I have a taste for lettuce I add it, I've not yet added cucumbers (I don't even own a cucumber yet). I did make a recipe from Linda Sue's low carb site, the chicken salad which is 0 carbs...but I had celery in that, so I am playing with veggies and so far am doing well. My weight has not changed since I posted this...which is pretty normal for me, drop a couple of lbs and then sit there for a few days, drop another lb and maintain...so far so good.

                      I like the idea of adding foods. I will not add anything else (not even the cucumbers) for three days to see how the salad is going to affect my weight. If there is no adverse affects I will keep the salad and add the cucumbers...I'm comfortable with this so far.

                        sounds like a plan. go slow and careful. Just keep checking your fitday or whatever you use to be sure you are getting all the vits and minerals you need too cause without veggies it is hard to get them all. I was potassium low for my induction eating. others become calcium, and magnesium and one person posted last week she was maganese low which is needed for fat metabolism.

                          I will speak with my doc about this on Wednesday, thanks for the heads-up. I tried cucumbers last night...they ran right through me...so I'm scrapping cucumbers and trying cabbage...lol.
