  • Questions on Owl

    Good morning!

I am on extended induction for 2 weeks, will be coming off of it towards the end of this month and moving on to Owl 1.

I have been reading a lot about Owl and feel confident in following the rungs. I have a question though.

Let us say (perfect world most variables are constant) that I start Owl 1 - adding 5 net carbs of yummy veggies. I notice that after 2 weeks I am NOT down. That since the addition of the veggies I'm NOT losing anymore.

(and this question really would pertain to any rung)

Does that mean MORE veggies (or whatever rung of Owl I am on) is not good for me? that I am sugar/carbohydrate sensitive to that addition and that I realistically won't be able to add more veggies or whatever rung it is into my daily diet and still lose weight?

    Mini Goals:
212 lbs. (10% of me gone)
    175 lbs. (halfway point)
    157 lbs. (old average weight)
135 lbs. (High end of my ideal range)
    125 lbs. (Almost there)

Nope. It just means that you lost no weight that week. It can happen.

You can stay at a carbohydrate level for more than a week if you need time to figure things out.

      No, it doesn't mean that.

A lot of people have a pause in weight loss when they start OWL ... your body has to figure out what's going on.

The trick is to be patient and not jump to any conclusions.

How about if it is the same after 2 or 3 weeks?

A stall is four consecutive weeks with no loss of weight or inches.

Okay ....so...(and it's not that I don't love veggies, I do! LOL just want a clear picture of things before I start)....in general for "most" people if you give each rung time, make additions slowly, the average person will be able to move through and up to each rung eventually?

              Re: Questions on Owl

check your inches and see if you are going through one of thiose slight hesitations in scale weight loss periods. if so then you could move to the next rung knowing you have not found your CCLL yet.

if you have not lost inches nor pounds after 2 weeks you might want to look at what veggies you added that were new to your eating and try removing them but keeping the 5 net gram increase using other veggies you had as part of your induction eating.

if you still are not losing then remove the 5 net grams and see if you lose. if you do then you know your CCLL is what you ate your induction on. You can then climb the OWL carb ladder by subbing out 5 net grams of what you are already eating for 5 net grams of the new rung you are trying.

As we progress on Atkins our carb levels can go up and if you increase your exercise your carb tolerance will go up too accoreding to Dr Atkins.

                Okay thank everyone very much.

I believe I understand it better!

I think this initial move to Owl is more confusing then starting this whole WOE.

but that is okay....it is just another thing to learn!

                  Possibly.

Many people don't ever tolerate grains.

I never really added legumes back in ... though I will have hummus or chick peas on a salad on occasion. But that's a personal choice.

And ... just because you've "stalled" doesn't mean you're done losing. I know one person who had a 7 month stall ... and then her losing resumed.

You can't put your body on a timetable.

And ... sometimes it's not about reducing your carbs but increasing them.

Okay off to delete my time table for my body! Silly me and I was about to have it laminated too!

Seriously though thanks. It helps to have a clear picture of what the future will hold but at the same time remember that my body may react differently to each new dietary situation.
