  • Stress and weight loss

    Hi all,
I've seen it in the news, but I trust y'all more than I trust newspapers. Have you found stress and weght gain ( or lack of weight loss) to correlate?
I was going great for three weeks. But now, it's been almost two more and I stalled completely. this morning, my weight is up slightly.
I moved up to Rung1 and the first week on Rung 1 was no problem, but then....
I've been counting carbs, keeping an eye on quantities and putting in at least 30 minutes of walking a day. I really think I'm doing the WOE right.

But we've had some very tragic news about my husband's father, so we've been doing the hospital thing w/ dr consults, etc. On the outside, I'm the calm one in the family, but stress has always made me gain weight--which is how I put all this weight on to start with. Anyone else? Misery could use some company (and hope for the future) here!

You might be interested in this abstract. Stress linked to weight gain. (And calorie counting linked to stress!)

      Re: Stress and weight loss

there are some nasty chemicals the body will release in response to stress that can cause body weight gain but we can neutrilize them by doing our required exercise part of our atkins as aerobic exercise will break them down during the exercise period.

But it is very normal to have a weight loss slowdown right after the initial loss on any weightloss plan. Atkinseers call it PISS. It has to do with the human body not liking collapsing inward upon itself( think of a grden hose being stepped on to know what happens when somwtrhing colloaspes inward too much too fast). the body has been stuffing fluid molecules into your tissues where fat molecules have been being removed to use for making energy. At some point you will exceed your body's tolerance for the fluids and a chemical to shed that fluid will be generated and poof overnight you will drop pounds even thoufh you did nothing different from the previous days when the scales didn't move. Atkinseers call that a visit from the WHOOSH fairy.

Check your measurements and you should still see the inches of body fast being burned off even when the scales don't validate your hard work.

Thanks so much for the encouragement. I am now anxiously awaiting the WHOOSH fairy! Maybe an extra few minutes of walking will entice her?

Very interesting article, Carnel. It's a great reason to not count calories. Although I still have to count my carbs. It's not instinctive yet for me to know how many I've eaten.
