  • Protein Powder on OWL?

    Hi Everyone,

I keep seeing great recipes using protein powder (low/no carb, of course) and I was wondering when you would add this into OWL. Is it 'safe' for rung one? I just responded to another post that my weight loss on week one of OWL has stalled entirely so I don't want to do anything further to disadvantage myself here... For the record, I lost about 5-7 lbs on induction and have 10-15 lbs total left to lose and have been stalled for the entire first week of OWL rung one.

Thanks for your help and advice!

I think Whey Protein powder is ok on OWL 2 (dairy). Make sure to add it independent of other new dairy to see if it causes issues.

Exercise: Stroll leisurely around Miami Beach 1-3 times a week, between 4-8 miles every time.

Carne! is right - whey protein powder is a rung 2 addition as it is from milk, pea protein powder would be a rung 6 addition as it is from a legume.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

Great, thank you. I'm only on OWL 1 so I'll hold off on the powder for now. Thanks to you both!!!

Taking a pause in losing when you move to OWL is pretty common. Also, with so little to lose, your rate of loss will most likely be painfully slow.

This is me exactly. Am on OWL 2 now and have not only stalled but gained pounds. HOWEVER I did lose a good amount of inches and that is more important....
This is what OWL is all about- to show you what foods you can and cannot eat.

Thanks, everyone. You all make good points. I know I just need to be patient but it's hard when Induction seemed to work so well and then all of a sudden there was no weight loss. Thanks for the advice and words of wisdom. I'll try to be patient!

It's interesting how many people on these boards notice a change in inches but not in weight. I haven't measured but my clothes are still fitting about the same so I don't think I've lost inches but it's great to know that is something that seems pretty common. I will try not to be so chained to the number on the scale.

Thanks again, all!! You've been full of invaluable help and support and I really appreciate it.

There's always going to be a point when you don't lose. There's never been a "promise" that weight loss would happen every day, every week, or even every month.

I once worked with a person to get through a 7 month stall.

7 month stall!!! Wow - that's perseverance on both of your parts. Very impressive and inspiring. Atkins seems to be (in part) an effort to reprogram my brain. Fat is no longer evil but actually helpful, the scale may not tell the whole story... The good news is that this is the most satisfying way of eating I've ever tried. I love vegetables and lean protein so a few more weeks of lots of veggies and chicken/turkey/eggs with some fat thrown in isn't at all something I dread.

Thanks again for your help and advice!! So very much appreciate!!

                    What a great insightful post
I am glad you are enjoying the food and are prepared to settle down into to making Atkins a pleasant journey towards a healthier and smaller YOU!!

Thank you!! It's amazing how difficult it can be to re-train your brain. I find myself constantly reminding myself not to feel guilty about having more fat than I'm used to because I should be having more fat than I'm used to. But, I'm about to start week four so I can't expect too much too soon!

Thank you again for all the help and support. I read others' posts all the time and I can't even begin to tell you how helpful the advice and encouragement is. A million thank yous!!

Now, I'm off to make a healthy breakfast with healthy fats and NOT weigh myself. : )
