Hi, ever since I had to give up nuts and dairy I've had trouble getting enough calories. Just when I think I've really eaten alot of food for a day.....I add it up and find that I am once again only at around 700 calories. I am trying to find low carb, high calorie foods, that do not have dairy or nuts......so far I am failing! I am extremily frustrated and don't know what to do. I am in the berry rung, but am staying at 20 grams of carbs a day......is it time to increase it? I add as much butter as I can stomach, put extra olive oil on meat that I cook, and salads. I am eating a whole avacado a day in the salads instead of 1/2......all this and my calories are still to low. The other night I was able to raise my calories to 1300 by eating a can of tuna with ALOT of mayo! Dairy and nuts are high in calorie...........hard to replace. I am missing dairy so bad that I could cry. adding soy milk has helped some (I can have smoothies, but they are still low in calories), but the cheese.....all my recipes were based around cheese. I am having trouble cooking without it. I was so depressed about this that I cryed my head off last night and almost ate a piece of cake (DH stopped me). I have not cheated on this WOE yet, and almost did last night. Food is boring without cheese......... :anger I even thought about stopping this WOE....but hubby reminded me that I was losing weight....and that whatever diet I went on would still not allow me to eat dairy so what would be the point? He is right.....of course....he is my voice of reason when the sky is falling! Any ideas? I am at desperation level. :help

not sure why you gave up nuts and dairy were you intollerent?
You can select highly dense cal foods with a smaller portion size like pumpkin for your carb a fatty piece of meat for your protein source and your cals will goup fast.

Hi 2big, I was stalled for 4 months. I had portion control problems with nuts (to the extreme). I have mold allergies which prob made me crave the nuts. Intolerant to dairy. Dairy was causing bloating, and no weight loss, joint pain, and no energy. I was up to a pot of coffee a day trying to get energy. All those symptoms went away when I gave up dairy. I am also off the large amounts of coffee. I'm drinking 3 cups of plain tea a day now, and finally have the energy that everyone talks about. Modified owl because I have so much weight to lose. I am afraid that if I raise my carbs I won't lose any weight. Is that wrong? Should I be moving up? I have 40 pounds to lose.
I have not been eating pumpkin lately....it was an old favorite, but I use to mix it with cream cheese. Is it good plain?? Maybe warm with butter? I just looked at the can, it is only 40 calories per 1/2 cup...... I have very low fat meat, which makes it low calorie. It is all game meat. Deer and Elk, However, I just returned from the grocery store where I bought 5 fatty porter house steaks. I hope they help with the calories. My DH understands that I needed to buy them. He is proud of all the meat he puts in the freezer and the grocery bill savings. I also found premade, pre-cooked itallian meatballs. for 12 of them, it's 500 calories with 4 grams of carbs. They contain some wheat......I bought them anyway, because of the calories.
I am wondering if it is time to move past 20. Lots of questions. I am extremily bored with my food choices right now, and frustrated at the calorie intake. P.S. I'm also on TOM.....which is not helping my mood much :sarcasm

Bored with food is a red flag to move to OWL. So you are dairy intolerant. Mold issues watch out for any dried foods to like spices or even your tea too.
I like pumpkin jello mix pumpkin with plain gelatin and pie spice sweetent to taste refigerate and injoy. I also like it with garlic and onion as a veggie.
Add some fat to your game meats make venison sausage, meatballs, or burgers and add some fat to them.. You can't do a low fat Atkins as it is driven by the fat to keep us in fat burnoing mode. Low fat low carb is high protien and that is somebody elses plan too.
Adding that 5 net carbs of veggies from your induction lists couls give you lots of sause options and make your food much more interesting chili, spaghetti pureed roasted peppers make a great sauce add some soups to your meals. Can you do th4e soy cheeses? if you look they are induction legal.

Excellent ideas. I am going to try the pumpkin Jell-O. I have all the ingredients for it. The game meat idea is excellent to. I actually did get some beef fat and mixed it with the ground elk (I ran it through my meat grinder). Then made hamburger patties with a burger press and froze a ton of it. It was easy meals while it lasted! It was sooo much better that way, nice and juicy......however, I ate it all. I did not think I would like it without cheese, but your sauce idea is excellent!!! I am searching for some recipes. I may just make some up.
I am bummed out about another discovery. Soy milk is giving me the worst explosive gas...EVER....worse than Sugar Alcohols :anger !!!! My DH told me that I had the entire house stinking last night :yikes
I managed to get my calories up last night without any problem, thanks to the meatballs...oh and egg salad!!!! I forgot how good that stuff is!!
I had contemplated giving up the tea because of molds......but really don't want to.. :guns I did give up many mold foods such as nuts and mushrooms, and cheese (for both mold and dairy problems).
I am confused about the dairy thing......I really wonder what part of dairy bothers me. I can tolerate unclarified butter and whey protein isolate...both are milk derivatives. Yet cheese and cream mess me up.....does that make sense??
I decided to move up to 25 grams of carbs per day. Started yesterday, and found myself very food satisfied and not bored. Thank you for the ideas. Trish
