  • ? about the books and OWL

I just realized that my copy of Atkins is an older version from the 90s. Obviously there are some changes, because I don't recall reading anything about rungs. When I added carbs to my meals after Induction, I added strawberries and high fiber/low carb bread, although I don't eat either every day. I keep my net carbs between 20-30 each day.

So does this mean I'm not doing OWL correctly? And should I just get the newer version of his book, or should I go with Atkins For Life? Not sure what the difference is....

    Thanks for the help!

We use the 2002 edition here. You can give all the great stickies a read here too!

Yes... the 2002 version is the one everyone follows.

Whilst on the subject, has anyone noticed a few differences between the Power of Five list in DANDR (2002) and the Power of Five sticky?

Was confused over a couple of items the other day, though can't remember what they were! Would have asked then, but was far from a computer, in the middle of nowhere!

Re: ? about the books and OWL

          Hey Monica,
You will probably be more successful on the program if you buy the latest edition of Atkins (2000) edition. It's in paperback and costs about 8.00 at WalMart.
The carb ladder is nice because after Induction your body is ready to go on (if that is your desire as well) to adding more carbs. The carb ladder allows you to do that in a controlled manner. It is also the way you will find your CCLL.
Glad to have you here! Hang in there!

the Atkins for life book has the rungs too but it has the AGR value groups within the rungs too. They also moved pumpkin from induction to the other veggie list.

Rungs are based on GI values and allow the most folk the best succes in controlling blood sugar spikes and cravings so they are long term Atkins successes.

sallyslimsoon LoonAtika was just trying to help folk figure out how much of a food was 5 net carbs based on her carb counter.
if you look in DANDR in the chapter on carbohydrates chapter 7 Dr Atkins announces in the section on nuts that one ounce is 5 carbs so the power of 5 has one ounce of nuts as 5 net carbs. Since that was the serving size he invisioned for his nuts portions I'd go with him even though we all know from checking the carb counters 1 ounce isn't 5 net carbs for all nuts.

Also rhubard an induction veggie was placed on the other fruits rung too.

Thanks 2big, for the reply. Usually, when in doubt I opt for the highest carb rating... better safe than sorry! :yes
