  • Too much Chicken?

    Hello all,
I just finished my 14 day induction. During induction, I entered a few random days into fitday to make sure I was on track. My ratios were pretty close. Today I went back and entered in ALL my food since Day 1. What an exhausting task! Anyway, I noticed that on a lot of days, my protein was too high in the ratios. For three days in a row, my ratios were:

    55/42/3
    56/42/2
    54/44/2

Here are my menus for those 3 days:

    Day 1
Crustless Quiche, one 2"x3" square (2" high)
    6 ounces grilled chicken, plain
    cucumber salad - 1/2 cup
celery & cream cheese (~1 cup celery sticks w/ 1 ounce cream cheese)
2 chicken prosciutto mozzarella roll-ups (equal to one 8oz. chicken breast, one thin slice of prosciutto on each, total 1 oz. mozzarella) (edited to add: 1 tsp. olive oil & 1 clove of garlic on each roll-up)
1 cup homemade coleslaw (cabbage and mayo)

    Day 2
    2 scrambled eggs
    3 strips bacon
celery sticks (~1 cup) in ranch dressing (~2 Tbsp)
    1 oz. string cheese
    grilled chicken breast, plain, 8oz.
    1 cup homemade cole slaw
2 prosciutto & mozzarella roll-ups (no chicken this time, just 2 slices of prosciutto with about 1 ounce of cheese)
    14 ounces of steak, grilled
    1 cup cole slaw
    3 oz. cheese

    Day 3
Chicken BLT bowl (1/2 pound of bacon, 8 oz. chicken, 1 cup romaine, 1/2 small tomato, 2 tbsp. mayo)
2 boneless pork chops (almost 1 pound) (grilled, plain)
    1 cup cole slaw
    2 prosciutto & mozzarella roll-ups

My carb count is definitely in range, I had 10, 13, and 8 grams respectively. I was surprised to see my fat to protein ratio though. I feel like I eat a ton of fatty stuff throughout the day, with the cheese and the mayo and the fatty meats (all that bacon!).

Do you think I'm eating too much chicken (high protein, low fat?) I could probably add some fat to eat with my chicken, but then I fear that my calories would be way too high, as they're already up around 2000-2200. Any insight would be appreciated.

As long as most of your days were close to the ideal of 65/30/5, then don't sweat it. It's ok if the numbers bobble around. :yes

I did notice that on day 2 you had 2 cups of coleslaw (cabbage is on the 1 cup veggie list ). Cabbage has 3 net carbs per cup so that would come to 6 carbs, plus whatever carbs the mayo added up to.

You also listed 2 eggs, which comes to roughly 2 carbs by themselves, plus you had some cheese, which has carbs.
(You also appear to have gone over the 3-4 oz cheese limit.)

Your total that you give us has your carbs at 2%...somehow that's not sounding right to me. :confused
On the main page of Fitday there's a thingy where you can make your food entries visible to others, and it'll give you a link to share. Maybe pop that up so we can have a look?

You're absolutely right. I made a lot of coleslaw because I was thinking cabbage was a salad veggie (hey, it seems logical), and it wasn't until I was licking the last bowl that I realized my mistake.

And I eat too much cheese. That one night I had 3 oz. at night in one sitting because I was tempted by much worse things. I'm working on it!

Here's my fitday link. The days in question are 5/18, 5/19, 5/20.

Yep, better to have 1 ounce too many of cheese than to have something worse.
Of all things, I will have a pickle when I'm thinking about sweet treats. I like pickles but I don't eat them very often, and having one completely takes my mind off of other stuff.

I encourage you to continue plugging your foods into fitday, Effie. By looking at the days you've entered, you'll be able to see what you can and can't do with your foods.
