  • Induction menu--just starting out

Hi everyone! I thought I'd get some opinions on my menu for most days. Since today (Day 1 Induction for me) was a weekend, I'll give you what I envision Monday will be like. I am working 46 hours/week and going to school 12 Mon-Fri, so a lot of my meals during the day do have to be eaten on the run.

    Breakfast (around 7 am)
    2 hardboiled eggs (2g)
    2-4 slices precooked bacon (0g)

    Midmorning snack (around 10)
    1 cheese stick (1g)
1 serving pepperonis or a Slim Jim (0 for the pepperonis, 2 for the SJ)

    Lunch (time can vary--between 11 and 2)
Some kind of meat (shrimp, chicken breast, hamburger patty, steak)
1/2 large european cucumber (I count this as a cup of veggies?)
    1 TBSP dressing (2g)
I want to have a SF jello--may wait until after induction, though.

    Late afternoon (3:30-5 pm)
    1 cheese stick (1 g)
Maybe more pepperonis? Don't want to have too much salt.

    Dinner (7-9 pm)
Some kind of meat, again (Tilapia, Salmon, Shrimp, HB patty, Steak, Chicken...it depends on the day) If I have fish, I will drizzle maybe 1 tsp of olive oil on it. Red meat is usually prepared with garlic and Dale's Sauce.
2 cups salad, with a boiled egg and some crumbled bacon, and 1/4 cup sharp cheddar cheese), with ranch dressing (5 g)

Dessert--Sometimes if I am really craving a post dinner sweet, I will have a SF popsicle. These range from 2-4 carbs apiece.

I am also taking 6 capsules of psyllium fiber (5g carbs but 5g fiber per serving)
I also have these FiberCon low sugar fiber candies--they have 4g carbs but also 4 gs fiber. I know these have a little sugar, but when people bring in donuts or candy to work, I pop one of those in my mouth and it REALLY helps. Could it be bad for induction, though?

Water--I drink about a gallon a day. I also really like to have 1-2 cans of Diet Sprite a day...it is pretty low on the aspartame, but I may give it up if I experience a stall. I haven't seen Sprite made with Splenda around here.

Ok, so that's it! Comments, suggestions? It sounds a little boring, but I don't like a lot of veggies. Salad and cucumbers are about the only ones I can stand (besides potatoes and corn!). I am starting to try and like broccoli, though.

I just wanted to check that your cheese sticks are proper cheese and aren't processed cheese in any way? If it is the proper one - then good on you!

I was wondering if you ate enough fats? On Induction, you start off at 65%fats/30%protein/5%carbs - I just noticed you would use only 1 tablesp olive oil on your fish for dinner. Maybe you're using more throughout the day and just haven't mentioned it or you already get enough fats from your food... so just don't mind my comments then
You do know about www.fitday.com right? It helps you with daily % and carb/fibre counts too :yes

Splenda/popsicles etc - it is suggested that you try and give up all forms of sugars and artificial sweeteners during the first 14 days. For many, the artificial stuff could make us stall or make it really difficult to break away from the sweet tooth. Also, it is encouraged that you try and break away from all sweet foods because Induction is tough enough as it is trying to combat cravings, withdrawals from carbs, Induction flu etc etc without the added effects an artificial sweetener could cause...

SO, reckon you could try and give up your SF popsicles and FiberCon low sugar fiber candies? Even though these may have fibre, it's the effect of the artificial sweetener that you have yet to find out

    cheers.

My cheese sticks are the string cheese--the proper kind! Thanks! I'm not sure about the fat....I think I'm getting enough fat, but I do need to make sure. I've been eating a little mayo with my meats and using olive oil with my fish...also the ranch dressing I've been using has 18g per 2 TBSP!

As for the sweets....I've decided to give them up, at least until Friday. On Saturday, I hope to take a look back (and a look down on the scale!) and evaluate my cravings....but I had none at all, sugar wise.
