Re: What could I be doing wrong?

Hi, I was wondering if maybe you are menstruating during this time? Could be extra water weight?? Or it just may take longer to lose some inches. I know induction is usually two weeks, but your metabolism may need boosting. One thing I've done recently is interval training. I used to run miles, but now I walk, sprint, jog, walk, jog, walk, sprint,...anyway it boosts the metabolism (so I've heard). If you've tried all this, then could you be on some meds that might affect loss of weight or inches? God bless, Hazel eyes

If only one of these would apply but they dont. Dont take ANY meds except my vitamins and supplments, wasnt PMSing, and infact I do interval train. So there....the dilemma continues.....

okay you have done a total of 18 days of Atkins eating so take stock of your changes?

        Do you have more energy?
        Are you smaller?
        Is your appetite suppressed?
Have you moved to OWL and started eatting more of those induction veggies?

          Giving up on Atkins

          - Dont have more energy - infact was asking on here earlier about not being able to do a full workout.
          - Not at all smaller - not even an inch
          - Appetite is the same
          - Moving to OWL on Friday.

Sorry to report this but I did give up today. I figure if I was eating like I did before and exercising I would have already lost weight. But on Atkins I stayed EXACTLY the same in every way.

Dont chide me all at once , I didnt cave in but I decided to give up ATkins today. So I ate a few cookies and chocloate to celebrate the end.

Tonite I sit in my hotel room and wonder if I made the right decision. Perhaps I should have just moved to OWL. I heard it took someone 10 months to lose the last 10 lbs. Thats ridiculous - I coudl do that in 2 months on a regular diet and exercise program. Thats the reason I figured Atkins is not for me.

Any help (and kind advice) would be appreciated before I leave this forum. Is there any recourse?

Re: What could I be doing wrong?

Sonya, let me ask you, what did YOU expect Atkins could do for you?

From what I have read so far and the answers you were given in some of the other threads you have posted in, I get the impression that you see Atkins as some sort of quick-fix weightloss program.

If you can lose 10lbs, as you said, "in 2 months on a regular diet and exercise program" then why are you doing Atkins?

Atkins WOE is more than that - it not only helps shed unwanted pounds, it also changes your way of life, your attitude towards food. It cuts emotional attachments to food and for others it breaks addictions to food. Atkins is not just about weightloss and inches - it teaches much more than that.

As I recall, you are a little over 130lbs, around 5'5 and want to lose 10lbs. At your height and weight it sounds like you do not even have the room to lose an inch, let alone see a pound drop often. If any change does occur with you, it would be because you are taking whatever remaining fat is left on you AND replacing that fat with muscle. This could mean your inches and weight could stay the same for a longer period than you would expect.

Why do you not ask any successful goalies or Mainteners this question? I am sure they took more than 2 months to lose the last 10 pounds.

Why? It wasn't because they couldn't do it in 2 months, and if you really ask them they would also tell you their "diet" was "regular" and they had a pretty good exercise program. DANDR provided instructions to lose these last few pounds so the weightloss is barely perceptible. Successful goalies not only want to lose these last few pounds, they also want to keep the weight off FOR LIFE.

If you do decide to "leave this forum" and "give up Atkins today", then we would be interested to hear from you in 2 months' time to see if you have lost the weight. Furthermore, we would be interested to hear from you in a year's time to see if you have kept this weight OFF.

Without any malice intended, if you "ate a few cookies and chocolate to celebrate the end", then I am wondering if you have learnt anything at all from this WOE since you started Atkins and I will indeed be interested to see how you will manage your cravings and your hunger as you go ahead on your life celebrating with "few cookies and chocolate".

Re: What could I be doing wrong?

I fully expected to get this kind of feedback. I might have painted a picture that sounds like I gave in to a craving. That wasnt the case at all. I made a concious decision to eat those cookies. Also, I want to point out that I have maintained my current weight (after I lost 45 lbs on a nother diet) for THREE years. So I know all about emotional eating and the ways to curb it. With that said, I will admit Atkins was great in that it completely got rid of my cravings which used required a lot more control in the past.

This morning, I am going back to induction for the next 3 days (this will complete my full 3 weeks since I started). Hopefully, I can be back in ketosis by then and will start OWL.

Any advice on how to reenter the program after falling off ?

Re: What could I be doing wrong?

Hi Sonya, the advice I often give and also often get after falling off, would be to just learn from it, pick yourself up and keep going. Yep, you are doing the right thing going back to induction for a few days to get back into ketosis. After that OWL - you'll find that you will have less of a need to "cheat" because you'll be open to greater variety of foods so there are less things to "cheat" on if you get my drift.
So good to see that you've decided to move onto OWL

One thing I'm curious about though... why did you decide to have a "planned" cheat at this point? I remember i did it once, but it was 3.5 months into Atkins and it was a very controlled weekend away from Atkins and I didn't eat junkfoods as such. I learnt a lot from myself that weekend but it wasn't done without much contemplation.
So why now? What were the emotions/thoughts while you were eating your cookies and chocolate? Or was it simply a case of you missed those foods?

Re: What could I be doing wrong?

Hi guys....yes if I could have reported a craving, I would have admitted it. But it was not. I have been sitting locked up in a meeting room for 3 days. The first day I resisted bagels, croissants, danishes, cookies and icecream - no sweat - i didnt even have to try hard. Why? Because I was very committed to Atkins. Second day, same thing, people were burgeoning with onion rings and cream pies - I hadnt the faintest inclination to cheat - not a morsel. Then on the third day, I had logged in here and read that it took 10 months for some people to lose 10 lbs and I felt very frustrated. I thought to myself I didnt want to spend that kind of time to lose 10 lbs. I know some of you would say its not a diet, its a Way of Life. I do agree with you, but losing the 10lbs should not be such a feat. So I simply decided, I was going to stop Atkins. The cookies just happened to be there at that moment. Seriously!. The other thought going through my mind (which justified my decision too) was my hair loss. I just dont want to lose hair again. I was s**t scared when it happened to me the first time. These were my thoughts that day.

I messed up but plan to get on track right away. Once in ketosis, I will move to OWL and get more exercise. Will keep you posted. Any other thoughts or suggestions?
