  • Im not sure if these foods are ok to eat...please help

    Hi everyone!
Ive been on induction for a while now with slow results and i thought maybe I might be eating some things that arent so good for me.

Im going to make a list of some thigns im not sure about. Please let me know if its ok to eat them..Thanks!

    1. The book says I can eat cheese, so I eat about 2oz mozarella in my omlette every morning...Is this ok or should i put a halt on it..some people say it delays weight loss.

    2. I found 2 cheeses that say 0g of carbs. One is krafts sharp cheddar cheese. The other is grated cheese (dry). They say 0g carbs, so can i eat it as much as i want to?

    3. My hellman's mayo is made of canola oil and says 0 carbs..but it says sugar in the ingredients...I read up on a few sugar free ones but I just cant find them. Is it that bad? Should I make my own or is it okay?

    4. My carb options dressing is sweetened with splenda, but still has 0 carbs. I know i should count 1g of carbs for the splenda every time i use it...but i eat alot of that dressing! I use it on everything (very full of fat). Should I stop using it because of the splenda and find one not sweetened at all?

    5. I know processed meats are bad because of sugar etc...so i went to the store and looked for hot dogs/bologna/salami that said 0g of carbs and said made all naturally. It is hebrew national: "no by products, artificial flavors etc". Most of them say 0g of carbs. One of them says 1g of carbs. Is it okay for me to eat these hot dogs etc? Some ingredients in it are: beef, water, hydrolized soy protein, paprika, potassium, sodium lactate salt, and a bunch of other sodium stuff. Also contains soy.
Can I eat this? because it is sooo convenient.

    6. I noticed tomatoes are on the accepted foods list. I eat the smaller tomatoes. Not the very small baby baby ones...but they are still quite small. They seem sweeter than your average tomatoe. Do these have extra carbs? because they taste mucch sweeter.

    7. I have an occasional diet caffiene coke...trying to get off of it though.

I have alot more silly questions, just cant think of them all just now

I want to thank you guys in advance for any help you can give me...this is really a great board!!

It should be fine but the only way to know if it delays YOUR weightloss would be to ditch it for a while and see what happens

No - the 3-4 ounce limit is the limit on induction. If you find cheese does not stop your weightloss you can add more on the dairy rung of OWL
    3. My hellman's mayo is made of canola oil and says 0 carbs..but it says sugar in the ingredients...I read up on a few sugar free ones but I just cant find them. Is it that bad? Should I make my own or is it okay?
Dr Atkins covers this on page 127 of DANDR 2002
For salad dressing, use oil and vinegar (but not balsamic vinegar, which contains sugar) or lemon juice and herbs and spices. Prepared salad dressings without added sugar and no more than two carbs per tablespoon serving are also fine.
If you an find which brands other Atkineers have found with no added sugar then contact the manufacturers (most have websites) and ask them where in your area their products are sold. They should be able to tell you who distributes it local to you. Some people buy theirs online.
Or make your own - in the cooking forum I have seen several posts with easy-to-make recipes.
    4. My carb options dressing is sweetened with splenda, but still has 0 carbs. I know i should count 1g of carbs for the splenda every time i use it...but i eat alot of that dressing! The limits on splenda are 3 servings per day, so check on the bottle to see how many tablespoons make one serving and work out how many you can have in one day - but this would mean no other splenda in the day!!

As you know - soy products except for soy protein isolate and tofu are not allowed till the legume rung of OWL (along with peanuts) . Too much sodium or salt can make you retain water big time - so dont eat too many of these processed foods and maybe drink extra water too to flush it through you
    6. I noticed tomatoes are on the accepted foods list. Ieat the smaller tomatoes. Not the very small baby baby ones...but they are still quite small. They seem sweeter than your average tomatoe. Do these have extra carbs? because they taste mucch sweeter.
Have a look on www.fitday.com and compare the counts of one cup of 'cherry tomatoes' and ordinary tomatoes to decide how many carbs to count for them. sometimes packaged fresh tomatoes do say the carb count for those particular tomatoes, so use their figures if they are on the pack.
    7. I have an occasional diet caffiene coke...trying to get off of it though.
Your body will thank you if you can wean yourself off it

As to products with a carb count of zero - remember that count is for what the manufacturer designates as a 'serving' - so if one serving is meant to be one teaspoon and you eat one tablespoon of it you have to multiply the carb count by 3. The complication comes when you realise that if the carb count is less than .49999999 they can call it zero - so you might be eating 3 times .499999 carbs which is nearly 1.5 carbs not zero.
In UK and some other countries we are better off as they list the counts per 100 gram or 100 ml, so we have a better idea of what is in however large a serving we choose to eat.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

Dido...and VERY nicely put eliz! Everything counts for something and you truly have to watch everything you eat and be accountable for it. The US is VERY slack on carb count. Fitday is a great way to know what you are eating. I always add the splenda for what I eat or drink right into fitday if it is in soda ect. Which I too need to get off of again.

Slow weight loss is something some of us just suffer thru. I, for one am the queen. I think you are doing fine cause you are reading labels and that is soooo important. Why don't you post a couple days menus, cause there may be a hint there of what your doing wrong if anything.
Are you eating your veggies, besides the tomatoes and what are you doing about exercise?
